NEWSLETTER - 4th APRIL 2025
Last Saturday saw the Charters Stags team take on Camberley seconds in a Charity Rugby game to raise money for the Sowers and Growers project in school. Thank you to all who came along to support, it was lovely to see over 300 people cheering on the two teams. Camberley won the game 52 to 36. Before the game, we hosted an inclusive touch rugby competition of young and not-so-young people enjoying the fantastic sport (and weather) that touch rugby is. Thank you to all who helped with the organisation of the event, Mr Watts for his vision and leadership and Camberley Rugby Club, Berkshire Brigands and Surrey Chargers Rugby Teams.
The Next Dynamo?
Having been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Young Magic Circle Member of the Year’, Year 10 student Seb had the incredible opportunity to showcase his skills at a charity event held at the QEII Conference Centre in Westminster last week.
The event, known as the ‘Chef’s Table’, was a fundraising dinner for Hospitality Action, a charity that supports those in the hospitality industry facing hardship. Seb was invited to entertain 300 guests while they enjoyed dinner prepared by 22 Michelin Star chefs, including renowned names like Tom Kerridge, Atul Kochhar, and Ollie Dabbous.
Seb’s style of magic was animated, fun, and full of humour as he encouraged guest involvement in his tricks. Throughout the evening, he performed close-up card magic, leaving guests and chefs alike both baffled and amazed. His lively energy and sense of humour brought plenty of laughter to the event, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
We are proud of Seb’s achievements and look forward to seeing where his magical journey takes him next! You can read the full story in the News section below.
Online Safety
Having conversations with your children around their use of social media and supporting them with the use of social media is something that is beneficial to your children and for you. Sometimes, knowing how to start these conversations and the best approach may be a block to trying. The following advice sheet may help you have these important conversations. A link can be found HERE that might help.
Alongside this, a report by the NSPCC outlines general trends in attitudes towards social media from a parent and child viewpoint which may help give some context.
In addition, a smartphone-free childhood, as we have mentioned before, has a pledge page on for parents to sign up to. Clearly, as a school we have a part to play in the education of individuals' use of smart devices and we do this through our personal development curriculum as well as talks from external providers. What we guarantee you that no child will need to have a smartphone to access any aspect of their education while in school in Years 7 to 9. At GCSE, depending on the subjects they choose, there may be a requirement for them to record information (take a photo, for example, of practical work development in Design and Technology).
A common reframe from children is that ‘everyone else has one’ or ‘ I need one for school’. Point two has been covered off by us saying that they don’t need one. As mentioned, the smartphone-free childhood website has a pledge page where parents can sign up to pledging that they will hold off giving a smart phone until Year 9. If you wish to sign up the link is here please pass the link on.
Summer Uniform
After the Easter break, students will be able to wear the school's summer uniform if they wish to. Instead of a shirt and tie or blouse, students can wear the school polo shirt with a blazer. Students still need to wear their lanyards. As we approach the exams season, Year 11 will be able to enter and leave the school site using their identification cards, which will enable them to ‘tap in and out’ from the 12th May. This will make it much easier for them during the exam season.
Equipment for School
Towards the end of a term, equipment supplies in pencil cases may well be running low, and in some instances pencil cases have been lost. This is an ideal time to top up on buying the new equipment for the summer term, it is vital that students have the correct equipment with them so they can access their learning quickly and effectively. List of the equipment can be seen below:

Misuse of Detached Car Park
We have been advised of some parents/carers misusing the detached car park, driving unreasonably and being inconsiderate to our Sixth Form students. This is an ongoing issue despite serval request that this car park is not to be used to drop off or pick up your child. We expect our school community to adhere to this request and not use the detached car park. Thank you.

Being Me Competition
The photography competition themed, "Being Me" was run by Mr Holmes and was an opportunity for self-expression through the lens. The House competition invited students to capture their identity, passions, and unique perspective on life in a single self-portrait.
Photography is more than just an image; it tells a story. The competition encouraged individuals to go beyond a simple selfie and create a powerful visual narrative that showcased who they truly are.
We would love you to view the incredible work of our students and have created a booklet featuring all the images which were submitted:
We will be displaying all the images submitted in a new installation in our STEM Block. Look out for this next term.

Fantastic performances from Ben (7G), Bethany (9A) and Annabelle (10I) at the Bracknell Open last weekend ! Ben finished 1st in Javelin, 2nd in Shot and 5th overall in the 75m, and even missed his gold medal presentation to make it in time to be part of the Charity Rugby event here at school! Bethany won her race in the 100m, came third overall getting a bronze medal. She smashed her PB to run a fabulous 12.75 seconds, achieving the qualifying time to compete at English Schools later in the year.
