SIXTH FORM VISION

We seek to provide an unforgettable Sixth Form experience where you will be encouraged to develop and grow within an ambitious, caring, and vibrant community. We firmly believe that life at Charters is more than just an excellent academic experience, and that our culture of success will enable you to work towards fulfilling your aspirations and dreams.

Our Sixth Form vision is integral to all that we do and through support, advice, and guidance we help our students become the young adults they wish to be, preparing them to be valued members of society. Our holistic approach ensures that along with great academic teaching, students are given opportunities to develop and display the skills and attributes that are not measurable by examinations but are fundamental to their success.

We believe that entering the Sixth Form is an important step on the road to adulthood, and that our support helps students acquire the skills and qualities that will assist them to be successful. We give students freedom to make many of their own choices, whilst we guard against them not reaching their potential; regularly monitoring their work and acting on this to challenge and motivate them as they strive to be the best versions of themselves. Each student has a Tutor who is at the heart of this on-going process.

Our spacious Sixth Form area provides a lively yet focused environment for learning. Along with the academic areas for work, The Durning Room for silent study, and specialist teaching facilities, we have our own Café and the Common Room which provide a vibrant collaborative work space. Our communal spaces are staffed by dedicated Sixth Form Support Officers who provide advice, offer support, and play the part of a critical friend to all.

To help bridge the gap between being at school and becoming a university student or apprentice, every Sixth Former is encouraged to take on responsibilities inside and outside the school. Our exciting and varied Enrichment Programme provides students with a wide choice of activities, from Japanese to debating, and sport to mindfulness, there is something for everyone. We are particularly proud of our links to the local community and many of our students choose to work with the local care homes and primary schools. Contribution to the wider school is actively encouraged and all students follow the ‘NextGen’ leaders programme, providing support, guidance, and aspiration to the younger school community.

From the first days of Year 12, we encourage students to think about what they want to achieve in higher education and beyond, so we can help them plan the best way to reach their goals. We support them every step of the way, encouraging, challenging, and helping them to develop the personal strengths and learning skills which will set them up on their journey through life.

The Sixth Form team are highly experienced and dedicated to providing every possible opportunity for their students, supporting them in the decisions they have to make around UCAS and higher-level apprenticeships. Students joining us in 2025 will be well supported in their journey towards the next stage of their lives, encouraged to try new experiences and immerse themselves in all that Charters has to offer.

We look forward to welcoming our 2025 cohort into the Sixth Form in September.
