News round up (4)

It is lovely to see all the students back in school after the half term break.

We held our annual Remembrance Day service on Monday to remember people from all faiths and countries of the Commonwealth and beyond who have given their lives or suffered injury in upholding the values that underpin our society.  The school community were present and marked the silence as a period of reflection and respect.

Lego club was launched this week, it was lovely to see 15 students’ problem solving, working in teams, laughing and joking as they built an earthquake proof building and also took on the one cup challenge.  Thank you to all who have donating Lego boxes complete or not, they are being well used to help individuals’ imagination and problem-solving skills. Any students interested in coming along please speak to Mrs Boorman.

One of our Year 11 students will be playing for Team GB this weekend in an international fixture against Spain in American football.  The game starts at 11:00am (GMT) on Sunday 16 November and the following link will take you to the online stream on YOUTUBE Charlie will be in shirt number 14 playing in the position of defensive back (DB).  We wish him all the best.

This week attendance letters have been sent home for all students, we appreciate that there are circumstances that mean that individuals might not be in school and these are completely legitimate, however it is important that we ensure that parents are aware of the impact of just a few days off can have.   This is in line with the new national approach to attendance.  Before the disruption caused by COVID the schools’ attendance was always above 95% by the end of the reporting period each year, since the disruption our attendance has been around 92%.  We are working hard to try and get our attendance back to pre-pandemic levels and we need your support with this.  Thank you to all of you who are in communication with the child’s tutor and the attendance team.

NOTICE TILES (5)ARBOR ASSIGNMENTS VIDEO

As part of our ongoing roll out of Arbor we have been working with staff and students around the assignments function which is where home learning is uploaded by staff and where students either submit home learning online via Arbor or confirm that they have submitted the work in person. For a variety of reasons there have been some challenges here, and we are working through solutions with both staff and students. This has taken longer than expected which we know is a frustration for some, but we do believe that we have resolved most issues. One of the things that we have shared with some families is a short video which you can access here. We do hope that this will help clear up some issues, help you support your son or daughter to manage their home learning inbox, and then move forward positively. Thank you for your support.
