NEWSLETTER - 31 MARCH

HIGHLIGHTS

The Year 7/8 Girls Indoor Cricket team have won the County Cup and are now in the Regional Finals being held next term.  You can read more further in the newsletter. Very well done to them indeed and good luck for the next stage.

The Under 16 Boys Basketball team have finished the season unbeaten and are County Champions, a wonderful way to finish their time together as a team as some of the boys move on to the Sixth Form.

Thank you to the PE department in both cases for coaching and providing the opportunities to take part.

As you know this week we had a long overdue OFSTED inspection, the last time the school had any formal external evaluation was over 13 years ago.  Many aspects of life have changed since then including how schools are judged.  I would like to thank all members of our community who took part in the inspection through surveys that were sent. We had very good levels of engagement through these, I am told, which shows that we are working in partnership to help provide the best possible opportunities for the young people in our local community.  The report will not be published until late into the next half-term, as soon as we have it we will be sharing with all parents.

I would like to wish you all a happy Easter and whatever you are doing over the break, I hope you are able to spend time relaxing and enjoying whatever you enjoy.  Once again thank you for your ongoing support of the school and the teaching and administrative staff who do a tremendous job in supporting all the members of our community.

SUMMER UNIFORM

The optional Summer term uniform code will be in place.  The Summer term uniform expectations can be found HERE.  White Polo shirts can be worn by all students and need to be tucked in.  Blazer must still be worn.  Students will be told when they can take them off by staff.

HANDBALL CHAMPIONS

PORTRAIT SIZE FOR WEBSITE IMAGE

The U16 Boys team were undefeated in the Berkshire Handball League when they headed into Finals day which boded well.  Their semi-final opponent Kennet dropped out of the competition which meant the final had to be played as a triangular event -  Game 1: Waingels 8 - 12 Charters and Game 2: Forest 5 - 6 Charters.  This resulted in our team ending the season as undefeated, and also Champions of Berkshire - a fantastic outcome for the team.  Congratulations to the boys for all their hard work and well coached by Mr Lunnon who accompanied them along the way.

CRICKET CHAMPIONS

Capture

Both of our Girls Cricket squads qualified for the Berkshire County Indoor Finals last week.

The U15s put up an amazing performance against both Wellington College and Bradfield in their two finals matches. Losing both, but showing amazing team spirit and great skills to take a number of wickets in both matches. It was a great achievement to qualify to this point and finish as the third best school in Berkshire.

Last night, the U13 squad had their turn to complete in their Berkshire Indoor County Final. The first match was against Edgbarrow. After a very tight bowling performance the team were set 59 to win. In their 8 overs of batting, the team managed to score 79 runs. The second game of the competition was effectively a final, as The Holt had already beaten Edgbarrow earlier in the afternoon. A winner takes all match. Charters won the toss and elected to field. The Holt batted well, and managed to score 75 from their 8 overs. Charters knew that about 10 an over was going to be needed to win the county title. A strong start saw the girls having scored 22 from the first two overs. A few wickets slowed the run rate down, but an eventual total of 92 runs saw the team crowned County Champions. They are now getting ready for the regional finals after Easter.  A huge well done to them.

FIVE-A-SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

As part of our Summer Festival on 15 July, one of our alumni is running a five-a-side football tournament during the event to raise funds for a project linked to his university degree. Jamie is currently an undergraduate studying a BA(Hons) Business (Team Entrepreneurship) degree at the University of West England, and he is raising funds as part of a project which aims to improve access to sports equipment for children living in rural villages in The Gambia.

Players must be 16+ and up to eight players are allowed per team. We hope to attract current students, parents, alumni and our wider community to make the tournament a real success for Jamie, so please tell your friends. Teams will be charged £30 to enter and you can register for the event using this link: https://forms.office.com/e/7Qb7xFdY8GCharters 65th birthday football tournament flyer

FOOD BANK - EVERY TUESDAY

Food
12:00-1:00PM
SHARE Hope Church, Sunningdale
High Street, Sunningdale, SL5 7LY (next to Nag’s Head Pub)

Hate food waste? Come along to Hope Church Sunningdale FOOD BANK, open to ANYONE. We have mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) It would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

We operate a  one (standard size) shopping bag per family policy and use ticketing system to stagger entrance to the food bank. We ask that you enter through the side door. Tea/coffee/biscuits are available from 11:15 and during the food bank. Entrance tickets will be distributed just before the food bank opens at 12:00. We may need to limit some items so there is enough to share with everyone.
