Autism Acceptance Week
It's World Autism Acceptance Week and the theme for 2023 is colour.
To show our Unity with those who are neurodivergent, our students & staff are signing their names on coloured footprints to show that we walk side-by-side with our friends.
We will then make a display of the footprints around our school so that our commitment to supporting each other is plain to see.
Throughout the week there will be various activities taking place which both reinforce the theme of 'colour' and demonstrate the way in which the entire school support each other.
In Tutor groups, students are watching a short video which busts a number of typical myths and stereotypes attached to Autism. We hope that our students find the video educational and allow them to better sympathise with those in our wider community with autism.
During second break on Wednesday we will be decorating cookies with brightly coloured icing, and on Thursday we will be playing games like Connect 4 and Ludo which both have brightly coloured playing pieces!
To round the week off, we are encouraging students and staff to wear a bright coloured accessory as part of our adopted phrase, 'The Brighter the Better'. This could be a hair tie, a scarf, socks - anything that can be worn in addition to our usual school uniform. For each student that wears a bright item, a House point will be awarded.
