News round up (4)

The Celebration of Success Evening was fantastic this week on Thursday.  It was wonderful to share the students' achievements with their parents and carers.   Our guest of Honour was Hattie Taylor, a former student of Charters and Olympic Bronze medallist in Paris this year as part of the Women's Eight crew in rowing.   Her speech, which you can read here, focussed on 5 lessons learnt in her training that enabled her to be successful. It was interesting to hear how closely aligned the GB Rowing Team values of United, Confident, and Relentless are with ours of Unity Respect Excellence.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our donation programmes.  It is very generous of you and every pound we receive is used to enhance the provision in school for all of our learners through extracurricular programmes, purchasing of equipment, guest speakers or ensuring that we have a wonderful learning environment.  Thank you once again, more details can be HERE

Below is a summary of the fixtures played this week – well done to everyone!

FOOTBALL

On Wednesday, the Year 8 Boys Football Team played against Kings Academy Binfield in Round 2 of the U13 Boys ESFA Cup. Despite Kings Academy Binfield taking the win by 7-0, our boys played with great effort, determination and sportsmanship. Well done boys.

NETBALL

On Wednesday it was the Year 8’s turn to play in the Furze Platt Netball league. Both our A and B team played brilliantly, with our A team not conceding a single goal in all the matches played!

RUGBY

On Wednesday, the Year 10 and 11 Boys Rugby Team played in the first round of the Winston Churchill Rugby League. Despite the wet and muddy conditions for the first rugby match of the year, the boys represented Charters exceptionally well and played some great matches.

NOTICE TILES (12)DETACHED CAR PARK 2PM-3PM DAILY

Due to several incidents at the start of this term, the detached field car park will not be opened until 3:00pm commencing Monday 23 September.  This decision has been taken due to incidents that have left students feeling intimidated by parents. We thank you for your co-operation by organising picking up your child away from the school site to help ease congestion in the area as well.

NOTICE TILES (11)SCHOOL PICK UP AND DROP-OFF

Could we please remind all parents to be considerate to others when using the pickup / drop-off area at the front of school and the Leisure Centre car park.  Due to the number of vehicles that need to move through the site in a short period of time we ask that you move on immediately so that others can follow in behind you.  This also helps the traffic on the surrounding roads to keep moving.  In both areas we also request you do not park in the marked car park bays and if you do need to stop, for example, to make a phone call, you do so off site.  These small requests will help keep our car parks safer and traffic moving.  Finally, a reminder that the coach park at the front of school is for coaches, staff and access to disabled bays only.  Thank you for your co-operation.

NOTICE TILES (18)CHATCLUB

The Sixth Form support a Charity called ChatClub which involves a number of our students having weekly TEAMS calls with students in Tanzania. Our students have also raised money for their school to refurbish wash facilities and to help build a new Science Lab. See the profound impact it has had on our students and also read the Children’s Garden Home newsletter. For more details please contact Mr Metson

NOTICE TILESYEAR & CURRICULUM EVENING

It was fantastic to see Year 7 parents and carers at the Curriculum Evening on Thursday. Those that were able to attend listened to a presentation on our 7 curriculum, how teaching and learning is provided at Charters School and valuable information regarding the core areas of the curriculum, English, Maths and Science and also how MFL is structured within the school. The evening ended with the opportunity for parents and carers to experience some lessons in English, Maths and Science … and we are glad to report that they all survived! The feedback from the evening has been overwhelmingly positive, and we would like to thank the parents/carers who were able to attend and of course show our appreciation for the staff that delivered the event and the Year 11 prefects, who helped the event run like clockwork!

We are aware that there was a lot of information shared and that some parents/carers were unable to make it. Please find here a copy of the presentation that we went through on the evening. In addition to the information already mentioned there are some slides on our reading programmes, home learning, how to navigate the school website and our enrichment programmes. Please do take a look!

NOTICE TILES (2)URGENT ALLERGEN ADVICE MESSAGE FROM CUCINA

The Food Standards agency has released urgent advice to the public regarding possible peanut contamination in all products that contain or may contain mustard ingredients. While this is a precautionary measure and there has been no recall of any of the products Cucina use at this stage, this allergy alert could affect dishes that contain or may contain any mustard ingredients like pasta, mayo, mac and cheese, BBQ sauce, curry, sandwich fillings, custard powder and cakes & desserts.  We advise that students with known nut allergies avoid all products that contain or may contain any mustard ingredients.  As the Food Standards Agency release more information, we will pass this on.

Students who are concerned about potential allergens are encouraged to speak to the Chef who will talk them through the food of the day.  Parents with concerns about allergens are asked to contact Cucina directly to discuss specific issues.
