Incredible Student Success
Last week, Y13 Student Christian and Head of English Mrs Boorman, attended an Award Ceremony at Brasenose College, Oxford as a result of Christian achieving 'Runner Up' in the Massolit Video Essay Competition 2024.
The day consisted of an informal welcome chat with the other winners, a tour of the college, a celebration lunch, followed by an award ceremony where all of the students received certificates. Christian was one of 9 students out of 300 that submitted entries to be awarded 'runner up' which was a fantastic achievement. Christian's video submission was extremely popular with the judges, and was based on 'The History of Tanks in World War Two'. Christian took his audience through facts and figures about tanks, and even transported them to the Tank Museum at Bovington, Dorset, as part of the video.
Mrs Boorman said: 'It was a fantastic day out at Oxford University and it was such a pleasure seeing the young people conversing with each other on their various topics. Christian's submission really stood out for the judges as his passion for the topic was really evident, it was well structured and really well researched. I think the 'tank tank top' might have swayed the judges though!'.
Charters School have been subscribers of Massolit for two years. This online provider enables our students to watch video lectures from top university professors for secondary subjects. Mrs Boorman would like to say 'well done' again to Christian, but also to all the Y13 students who spent time on their submissions (we had 11 students enter) as well a huge 'thank you' to any member of staff who met with the students, giving up their time to give them feedback.
