NEWSLETTER - 06 SEPTEMBER 2024

News round up (4)

A warm welcome back to the new academic year and a particularly warm welcome to all our new families joining the Charters community.  I hope that you all have had an opportunity to relax over the summer break.

It has been lovely to see our new Year 7 students this week looking very smart and full of enthusiasm for the new opportunities ahead of them.  Like all students, I would urge them to grab all the opportunities that come their way both in the classroom and outside in clubs.

Our new Year 12 cohort has also started this week, it was great to see over 200 students returning to the Sixth Form after their successes in their GCSEs.  We are looking forward to supporting them as they progress through the Sixth Form.

The new school year is a chance for fresh beginnings and fresh opportunities, I hope that students are ready to build on their successes from last year and have been able to reflect on aspects of school that did not go as well as they would have hoped last year.  We will remind students of the expectations we have in school and the opportunities open to them if they want to take them.  In addition, we will highlight support services we have in school to help individuals who may need help at different times.  More information can be found on the school website.

I want to take this opportunity to remind all our parents that we have a new Behaviour and Relationship policy.  Furthermore, I would like to remind all parents of our policy around communication with staff at school, this can be found here.  Our new phone system now means that all conversations will be recorded

KEY STAGE 4 & 5 OUTCOMES

The outcomes for Sixth Formers and Year 11 students were very strong.  We are very pleased with the outcomes as they have meant that individuals are able to progress to the next stage of their educational journey.

In the Sixth Form 25% of grades were A*- A , 56%  A*- B  and 97% A*- E grades. Students have progressed to a variety of courses across many different disciplines and universities as well as higher-level apprenticeships.

At Key Stage 4, 65% of all students achieved grades 9 - 5 in both English and Maths GCSE.  78% of all students achieved 5 standard passes (9 - 4) including English and Maths. School attainment and progress data remain very positive overall and significantly above national figures.

NEWSFLASH (3)NATIONAL RELAY
Annabelle in Year 10 was approached by Reading Athletics team to second claim for them (she is a member of Bracknell AC) as one of their sprinters had pulled out of the National Relay championship competition with 2 days to go due to illness. The competition was held at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. Annabelle was asked to help in the U15 Girls 4x100m relay. Annabelle ran the second leg and the team were placed 2nd fastest into the finals from the heat stages, setting a season PB for the Reading U15G. The team came a very close 3rd in the finals, winning the bronze medal.

NOTICE TILES (4)DETACHED FIELD CAR PARK

We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that the detached field car park is for staff and Sixth form students ONLY.  It has limited space and if used by parents at the end of the school day leads to congestion and extremely tight spaces for cars to turn and move.  It also means that younger children are crossing in front of cars trying to move or reverse.

Our Sixth Formers are young drivers and should not have to deal with the impatience of people who should not be using the car park in the first place.  Thank you for your understanding in not using this space.

NOTICE TILES (5)ATTENDANCE

We have known for a very long term that good attendance means that students do much better in school in terms of academic and social outcomes.  As well as a new Relationships and Behaviour Policy we are also launching a new Attendance policy this year, copy can be found here.
