NEWSLETTER - 21 APRIL
A very warm welcome back to school after the Easter break I hope you have all managed to relax and celebrate over the holiday. I would like to wish a belated happy Vaisakhii and Passover to our Sikh and Jewish families. I would also like to extend a Happy Edi ul Fitr to our Muslim families on Saturday.
HIGHLIGHTS
Libby, one of our Year 12 students, has been selected to be part of the UK Space Design Team that is participating in the International Space Design competition in Florida, USA in the Summer. As a school we are extremely proud of her for being selected amidst very strong competition from across the entire country. In an era where both the Head of the European Space Agency Jupiter Project and the Chief Scientist at NASA are women, Libby is demonstrating that the next generation of female astronauts and space engineers is secure.
Ninety Five members of Year 7 have been away this week in Dorset on their outward bound activity week. The sun shined for them as they took part in a number of team building activities.
Over the following few weeks, we have a number of shortened weeks due to Bank Holidays and industrial action which will make it harder for students to get back into the rhythm of the school. As such I would ask that you support us in this by making sure that they have the correct equipment and books with them each day. It can sometimes be difficult to get back into a routine at the start of term at the best of times. Thank you for your support.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARTERS!
Charters School will be 65 years old this Sunday and we will be celebrating our 65th birthday with a Unity Day on Monday 24 April. We are encouraging our school community to wear Red, White and Blue mufti as our birthday coincides with St. George’s day, and ask that those who are able to, donate £1 through ParentPay towards our Unity Fund as payment to wear non-uniform for the day. The Unity Fund is a discretionary source of financial assistance for our disadvantaged students and aims to support students whose families may be experiencing financial difficulties.
We will be celebrating our birthday on 15 July with a Summer Festival and hope that our students, parents/carers, alumni and wider community will be able to join us for what is sure to be a fantastic event. As well as stalls, street food, entertainment and a festival marketplace there will also be a football tournament taking place on the day. This will be run by one of our alumni who is currently raising funds as part of a project which aims to improve access to sports equipment for children living in rural villages in The Gambia.
Players must be 16+ and up to eight players are allowed per team. We hope to attract current students, parents, alumni and our wider community to make the tournament a real success for Jamie, so please tell your friends. Teams will be charged £30 to enter and you can register for the event using this link: https://forms.office.com/e/7Qb7xFdY8G

FOOD BANK - EVERY TUESDAY
12:00-1:00PM
SHARE Hope Church, Sunningdale
High Street, Sunningdale, SL5 7LY (next to Nag’s Head Pub)
Hate food waste? Come along to Hope Church Sunningdale FOOD BANK, open to ANYONE. We have mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) It would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
We operate a one (standard size) shopping bag per family policy and use ticketing system to stagger entrance to the food bank. We ask that you enter through the side door. Tea/coffee/biscuits are available from 11:15 and during the food bank. Entrance tickets will be distributed just before the food bank opens at 12:00. We may need to limit some items so there is enough to share with everyone.
