NEWSLETTER - 20 DECEMBER 2024
Firstly, let me start by wishing you all a Happy Christmas and New Year. I do hope that at some time over the break you will all be able to have a rest and recharge for challenges and excitement that a New Year brings.
We had some big events this week in the school calendar as well as a trip to London for students to see the Classic Les Misérables helping them to develop an appreciation of high-quality musical theatre, and an understanding of revolutionary France in the 19th century.
The Annual Presentation Evening took place yesterday, where students from Year 11 and Year 13 from the class of 2024 received their awards. It was lovely to catch up with the former students to hear about their first term away from school-based education. The guest speaker was a former student who is now a marketing executive at Wentworth Golf Club. A fine golfer herself, Molly highlighted her journey to the role and the challenges and changes she had to deal with to get there. Her speech highlighted how your plans can be rocked but it is about how you approach this that ultimately means what happens next for you.
We also had the Carol service at Holy Trinity Church this week which was a joyous occasion and helped us all get into the Christmas mood with carols and readings that highlighted the Christmas message.
SMARTPHONES AND DEVICES
We continue to look at the impact that smartphones and devices are having on young people in our school and beyond. We will be inviting parents into school in the New Year around this topic so please keep an eye open for dates. You may have seen this documentary that was broadcast on Channel 4, if you haven’t, I would recommend it as a watch. You can access the programme HERE
SEXISM
Early this week I took the step of sending a separate letter home regarding the increase we have seen this term in Sexist language and behaviours, I would ask that you engage with your children on this issue. No one should have to hear this type of language and for female students and staff, this can be extremely upsetting and concerning. Thank you to all who have sent in positive messages of support in dealing with this. Young people need to be aware that such language and attitudes will not serve them well in life.
Take a look through our social media using the buttons above and check out this week's news stories below.
CHARTERS CHRONICLE
The latest edition of the school newspaper is available, thank you to the team of students who worked on the reports and the edits to produce the paper for the school community. In addition to the newspaper, we have a team of 15 students working on the school's social media posts giving the individuals experience in print media as well as social media for those considering careers in journalism and marketing. We now have GCSE/other exam certificates ready for collection for those who sat examinations in Summer 2024. Exam certificates are the way in which candidates can prove their academic qualifications to prospective employers both now and in the future. The school does not give out exam results to
third parties so students are dependent on their certificates for this evidence. It costs £40-50 to replace each certificate depending on the examination board.
Please come into Main Reception to collect your certificates. If you wish to nominate someone to collect the certificates on your behalf, we need to see written authorisation from the person named on the certificate. This can take the form of a text/email/letter to the nominated person.
TIMES FOR COLLECTION:
Monday – Friday between 9.00am and 2.00pm
6 January 2025 – 21 February 2025
