Alumni Inspires Future Medics
This week Charters Sixth welcomed back one of its accomplished alumni, Luca, who is currently pursuing a degree in medicine at the University of Kent. Luca’s visit gave an invaluable insight into the application process for students aspiring to enter the field of medicine.
Luca also shared practical advice on navigating the competitive application process for medical school with students in Years 10 and 11 who are considering a career in medicine. He provided tips on how to make a standout application, including the importance of gaining relevant experience, crafting a compelling personal statement, and preparing for interviews. Luca gave a detailed overview of what the first year of medical school entails, highlighting both the challenges and the rewards of studying medicine.
Luca's engaging sessions offered a glimpse into the realities of training to become a doctor. Luca emphasised the demands of the course, the need for resilience, and the importance of balancing academic workload with self-care. He also encouraged students to start early by building a strong foundation, gaining relevant experience, and staying curious about the medical field.
One of Luca’s key messages was: “Be prepared, do your research, and read widely.” He underscored the importance of staying informed and developing a genuine passion for the field, which will not only strengthen their applications but also sustain their commitment throughout the demanding years of study.
The visit was accompanied by lively discussions and thoughtful questions from the students, who were eager to learn from Luca’s experiences. His relatable and candid approach made a lasting impression, leaving students motivated and better equipped to pursue their ambitions in medicine.
We are incredibly proud of Luca’s achievements and grateful for his generosity in sharing his journey with the next generation of aspiring medics at Charters School.
