News round up (4)

The Year 11 Leavers assembly took place after their English Language Paper on Thursday, Mr Hancock and the tutors had put together a fantastic assembly to celebrate the 5 years they have been in school.  It was lovely to see them signing each other’s shirts and chatting over a doughnut in the Sixth Form area, where many of them will be studying next year. One Year 11, Ella has written this wonderful piece that I'd like to share with you.

This week with its changeable weather, has seen another set of wonderful trips go out across a variety of Year groups from Year 9 at Wisely Gardens looking at sketching skills, Yr 10 Sports Leaders helping to run a primary football festival to the Year 12 Chemistry students visiting a L’Oréal workshop.  All ended with students being complimented by people at the events - my favourite compliment is about the Year 12’s who were referred to as having ‘outstanding micro pipit skills!” very important to the lab work they were simulating.   In addition to these three trips, the Geography department has taken the Year 10 geographers down to Hengistbury Head to collect data for part of their GCSE course.

When we return after half-term, there are two changes we want to make you aware of:

  1. Students will no longer need to wear a blazer in school.  If they are not wearing a blazer and they feel cold, they can either wear a school blazer or a school jumper.  No other outerwear such as ¼ zipped tops or PE sweatshirts can be worn. If students are wearing a shirt, they need to wear their ties.
  2. The internal timings of the school day will be changing. The start and finish times will not change, however, there will be movement time between each lesson. This therefore means that there is no misunderstanding of students knowing when the lesson starts.  If they arrive after the start time they are late and late minutes will be allocated.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Can please ask parents to arrange to drop off and pick up away from the immediate area, as we now have better weather a short walk to get picked up will do the students no end of good and help relieve congestion around the school.  Furthermore, can we please ask that parents do not use the detached field car park for pick up and drop off this is leading to congestion and with Sixth Formers feeling unsafe due to the actions of some parents.

If you have no other option but to drive to the school site, please remember to be considerate of others.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
