HIGHLIGHTS
Last Saturday saw the school host our 65th Birthday celebration and Summer Festival. It was wonderful to see so many people on the school site enjoying the different stalls and activities and meeting up with old friends. Throughout the day there were performances from both past and current students slinging on the stage in the Main Hall. There was a lovely atmosphere around, showing what can be done when the community comes together. The event managed to raise over £6500 for school funds which will be used to support the learning of the students in school now and in the future.
This week Peter Radford visited us again, following his successful presentations to Year 11 and the Sixth Form earlier this year, he addressed Year 10 about misogyny and sexism. As with the last talks, it was thought-provoking and conveyed a very powerful message that is not only important to listen to but to hear.
The GCSE Music group organised and performed in their own concert this week with Mr Stephenson in the guest singing slot. All the students performed very well, developing not only their performance skills but their leadership skills too. Well done all.
SPORTING FIXTURES AND EXTRA CURRICULAR
This year there have been 58 school trips (28 residential), 242 sporting fixtures, 2 school productions, 2 whole school concerts, 4 chamber concerts, a Year 10 GCSE concert, Robotics club, science clubs, support sessions and much more. Thank you to all the staff who run these sessions and the students who support them.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of our community for their support throughout this academic year and hope if taking a holiday you manage to relax.
SEPTEMBER 2023
Looking forward to the new school year, here are a few reminders:
START OF TERM
Wednesday 6 September 2023 for Year 7 and Year 12 – students in school for 8:30
Thursday 7 September 2023 for all other year groups – students in school for 8:30
Please make sure that your son/daughter comes to school in the correct uniform.
Students are expected to be following the uniform code from the start of September including wearing blazers
I understand that some people believe our rules around uniforms to be ‘pathetic’ and ‘that we should focus on more important things’ We do think that uniform is important and will enforce our standards. As such it would be helpful if you could support us in this as we do not want uniform to be an area of contention between students and staff and staff and parents.
If people need support with uniforms we have a wide selection of pre-loved uniforms for families just get in contact with us.
Please make sure that your son/daughter has the correct equipment for lessons.

NOTICES
GIRLS PE - SPORTS SPECIFIC LEGGINGS
As of September 2023, girls are now able to wear Sports specific leggings in PE lessons. Students are able to wear plain / non-branded navy sports / gym leggings instead of a skort or shorts. However, the leggings must be of a polyester, nylon, elastane based material and not cotton.
Students are still able to wear a skort, shorts, or Charters tracksuit bottoms. The leggings are not a compulsory item. They are an additional item and something that has been requested by a range of students across the school and helps to continue to keep the PE uniform current.
The Sport specific leggings are now in the Direct clothing store (links at the bottom). There is also a link included to other retailers who supply similar leggings that are suitable. This includes both Decathlon & Sports Direct.
There may also be other retailers out there that supply suitable leggings, if so, please do let the PE Department know so we can pass on.
Thank you all for your continued support of the PE department and have a good summer!
NO FOOD WASTE
We’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Olio to fight food waste!
Charters has started working with Olio to make sure no food goes to waste at our school canteens.
How does it work?
It’s simple: Olio volunteers collect whatever food doesn’t get eaten from our canteens. They then share any spare food with members of the local community - quickly and safely - via Olio’s app.
Our spare food ends up feeding people in the local community, rather than going to waste. Plus, sharing food through Olio means we’re helping care for the climate, too.
How can you get involved?
As well as offering schools like ours a way to redistribute uneaten food, Olio is also a sharing app for local communities, on a mission to fight waste. It makes it easy to pass on the things you no longer need — from food to furniture, and clothes to books — to people who live nearby. You can also use Olio to see what food you could collect for free in the local area.
Download Olio on Google Play or the App Store and get started today.
CUCINA TARIFF
From September there will be changes to our catering provider's prices. Please click here to read a letter regarding this. Here is the NEW TARIFF.
