News round up (4)

This week saw the annual SATRO Challenge, the competition is built around an engineering problem that needs to be solved.  Well done to the teams that took part and in particular to the Sixth Form Team who won the heat and now move to the regional competition.   We wish them all the best in the next round.

This week also saw the Year 9 option process start with parents in school speaking to the different departments, this was a new way of running the evening that seemed to be very successful with a high turnout from the year group.

The school production High School Musical has now finished, thank you to all involved in the wonderful production.  Such energy, determination and teamwork – Go Wild Cats!

This week is National Apprenticeship Week and students from Years 9, 10 & 11 had a presentation regarding the ever-increasing number of apprenticeship routes that are available to young people.  Thank you to the Apprenticeship Support and Knowledge (ASK) organisation who came to deliver the talks. You can find out more about apprenticeships HERE.

Thank you to Tesco who have donated £1000 from their Stronger Start funds to help with the purchase of books for the library to help with the reading programmes we have in school.  In addition, we have received another £1000 grant to help with developing mindfulness sessions for students in the Sixth Form and Year 11 next year.   The school's Legacy Fund is also supporting this initiative.

SPRING CHAMBER CONCERT

On Wednesday evening we had our Spring Chamber Concert. It was a fantastic event with every year group being represented; there were so many talented students that the performance had to be split into two halves. There were a wide variety of Year 7 and 8 musicians on many different instruments, who performed pieces from musicals such as Oom Pah Pah to Tchaikovsky's The Cat

The students were supportive of each other and there was a real spirit of camaraderie in the room. Teddy from Year 10 said: ‘I always love taking part in these concerts, since I really enjoy seeing how much my peers enjoy their music, while also being able to cheer on my friends as they put on a stunning performance.'

The next Chamber Concert will be on Wednesday 21st May, if your child would like to perform, they should contact Mr Hoare: a.hoare@chartersschool.org.uk. It would be lovely to see more students getting involved with these wonderful concerts.

UKMT IMC 2025 RESULTS, FOLLOW UP ROUNDS & CONGRATULATIONS!

It is with great pleasure to announce more than 116 Year 9 and 10 Mathematicians successfully participated in this year's UK Mathematics Trust Intermediate Mathematics Challenge 2025.  The IMC is a 60-minute multiple choice paper consisting of questions that encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve stimulating problems.  All participants will receive a certificate; the top-scoring 50% of all participants throughout the UK will be awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates in the ratio of 3:2:1.

This year our students were able to achieve 33 Bronze, 19 Silver and 6 Gold certificates.  “Best in School” went to Teddy (Y10), Jamie (Y10) and Wolfy (Y9) with joint scores, and all students who achieved a Gold (Teddy, Jamie, Wolfy, Theo, James and Sophie) have been invited to participate the follow-up rounds: Grey Kangaroo (Y9) and Pink Kangaroo (Y10), which take place on Thursday 20 March.  These are fantastic results which show the great strength of our Year 9 and 10 Mathematicians. We would like to congratulate all who participated and wish our Kangaroo participants the very best of luck next month!

Bethany in Year 9 and  Annabelle in Year 10 competed at the Indoor National Athletics Competition in Sheffield after achieving the National qualifying standard for their events.  That means they had to run a certain time or jump a specific length/height during the indoor season to qualify.

Bethany competed in the heats of the 60M and 200M, and Annabelle in the Long Jump.  Sadly, Holly C, who had qualified for the 300m had to pull out due to illness.

Although there was some frustration over performances on the day, everyone tried their very best and should be extremely proud of the fact that they qualified to be there in the first place and it was a great competition to experience.

As a nationwide competition, you can imagine how many athletes there are in the UK and Ireland vying for a spot at this championship so it is a no mean feat to even get there. Well done!

Digital screen Shape the future of pharmacy services

On behalf of RBWM Public Health

The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment public survey is finally live!

As part of our commitment to helping people live healthy and independent lives, we’re asking Royal Borough residents to complete a short survey to identify how local pharmacy services are meeting the needs of our communities.

The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) is an important tool that helps the council and our health partners to identify the health needs of local people, including changes to the population, what services and currently available across the borough and the gaps where improvements can be made. The final Assessment will then used by the NHS and local authorities decide on changes to current services and whether new pharmacies are required between 2025-2028.
