Super SATRO Teams!

Students from Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 took part in this week’s SATRO Problem Solving Challenge heat, competing against their peers from local schools in a test of ingenuity, teamwork, and STEM skills.
It was a fantastic outcome at Tomlinscote School, with Charters teams excelling in the competition:
- KS3 and KS4 teams placed 3rd, narrowly missing out on 1st and 2nd place by just two points.
- KS5 won their category and will advance to the finals at Surrey University in March.
At the finals, our KS5 students will not only compete for the championship but will also have the opportunity to tour Surrey University before the final round. There is also a possibility that our KS3 and KS4 teams may progress, depending on the results from the remaining heats.
The SATRO Problem Solving Challenge is a prestigious annual event, running for over 20 years and engaging nearly 1,000 students each year. Teams of six compete in a 90-minute desktop engineering challenge, using only the materials and instructions provided. Success is measured by achieving specific goals—whether height, length, speed, or time—through problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration.
Congratulations to all our students for their outstanding efforts and achievements, and for Mrs Janse Van Rensburg for arranging, and leading, the trip!
