News round up (4)

Another busy week at school we had a variety of extracurricular events as well as supporting the NHS flu vaccination services for young people.   Perhaps the latter is a strange highlight, however, the logistics of getting over 1000 students in to see the specialist vaccination team as part of the school day is no mean feat.  We are proud to be able to support this service to ensure that the NHS can reach all those young people who want to have a flu vaccination this year helping to protect the school and wider community.

We had 9 students take part in the Bebras Challenge this year, organised by Andrene. Six from KS3 and three from Year 12. The KS3 students came after school to take part and Year 12 did it as part of their enrichment. They all did really well with Orla Creswell from Year 7 achieving a Gold award which means she is in the top 10% nationally. There were 133,491 entries in her category. Ernie O’Brien and Ben Wallis (Year 9) were in the top 25% of their categories nationally too.

As you all know music plays a big role in the school and we have two major musical events coming up during the last two weeks of term, the Carol concert, and the Winter concert, we look forward to seeing as many of you there who can make it.  As part of the practice sessions, as the students built to these events one of the school bands took part in the celebrations by switching on the Christmas lights in Sunninghill, they performed several songs and added to the Christmas atmosphere.

We have also had a visit from Lord Thurlow, one of the remaining 94 hereditary peers still sitting in the House Lords.  He led question-and-answer sessions with students around the House of Lords and its part in the legislature in the UK.  The students were able to ask questions about the validity of the system and wider issues around the way that the two houses work.

Finally, we received the funding from Tesco to help us fund the essential parcels programme for families in our school community this week.  In conjunction with Hope Church, we are once again able to support families in our community who need support other the Christmas period.  Thank you to Tesco and the Hope Church for helping us with this important programme.

Next Thursday 12 December is Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children's annual event which raises money for the children who need it most. Every December, millions of people across the United Kingdom (and beyond!) put on a festive knit at their workplace, school or with friends and donate to help give children the magical future they deserve.

We at Charters are going to support and raise money for Save the Children and participate in National Christmas Jumper day on Thursday 12 December.  If you would like to make an optional donation please use this link that will take you to our JustGiving page.

Still not convinced you want to wear a festive jumper, let Shaun the Sheep persuade you...watch his video HERE.

So don't forget to don your most festive knitwear and let's bring some sparkle to Charters.

Charters School have two vacancies for Parent Trustees due to trustees’ terms of office ending. The Trustee Board welcome nominations from all eligible persons, and are keen to ensure the board is representative of the parent community as a whole. Nominations from those in the building, finance and legal industries would be particularly of interest as these are key areas for growth within the Trustee Board currently. Emails will be sent shortly to provide more details about the role and how to submit your nominations.

Pre-loved uniform is back!  We will be collecting in your spare, no longer needed uniform on Monday 16 December.  Items can be brought to the Main Reception between 3 - 3.30pm.

Please ensure items are in good condition and clean (and if you really want to make our day, they can be ironed!).  We cannot accept clothes with rips or holes, a good rule of thumb is to think whether your own child would be happy to wear the item.

We appreciate your support.

We've been humbled by the response to this year's Wish Lists campaign. We've already received over £2000 of donations and we are grateful for every wish that is granted.

We're raising funds to grant wishes for our school departments, enriching learning and joy for our students. You can spread a little Christmas sparkle this year by making a wish come true.  You can view the 'wishes' here, and if you would like to grant one, donations can be made via CAF Donate or on ParentPay.

Once you have done this, please email our Marketing Team so that they can order your 'wish' and deliver to the department in the new year.

Take a look at this fun video which shows how much your support means to us.
