The Power of Showing Up

At Charters, we believe that attending school isn’t just about being present in the classroom – it’s about building a foundation for success, both academically and socially. Good attendance creates a cornerstone of understanding and growth, ensuring students thrive in their learning journey and beyond.

There is a 'ripple effect' when students miss school and the effects can go far beyond the immediate impact of a single day away. It can have an impact on:

  • Attainment - Lessons build on one another and missing even a few days can create knowledge gaps that make catching up difficult.
  • Social Connection - School isn’t just about learning – it’s where friendships are forged. Frequent absences can disrupt these bonds, leading to feelings of isolation.
  • Confidence - Falling behind in lessons can dent self-esteem and lead to disengagement

We understand that there are many reasons students might be absent, including illness, family emergencies, mental health struggles and transportation issues.

If your child is struggling with attendance, we’re here to help. Let’s talk about how we can work together to address challenges. Communication is key to ensuring every student feels supported in attending school regularly, so please contact your child's Tutor, Head of Year or our Attendance Officer, Miss Lane to begin a conversation.

At Charters, we strive to foster a culture of positivity and encouragement when it comes to attendance. We celebrate milestones, provide support where it’s needed, and always emphasise the value of being present.

Numerous studies show a clear connection between attendance and success. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically and develop the skills they need for future challenges.

Attending school helps students:

  • Stay on track with learning
  • Develop important social and emotional skills
  • Build resilience and a strong work ethic

Good attendance isn’t just about today – it’s about setting students up for a brighter future. By being present, students maximise their learning opportunities and gain the confidence to achieve their full potential.

Let’s work together to make attendance a priority. Together, we can help every student at Charters build a strong, successful foundation for life.
