NEWSLETTER - 22 NOVEMBER 2024
Over 130 students received their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award certificates this week which was the cumulation of lots of hours walking, camping, learning new skills and supporting in the community. The award is going from strength to strength at Charters with record numbers taking part this year and next year. Thank you to Ms De’Ath for all her organisation and leadership of DofE and all the staff who helped the students on the expeditions and with all the other aspects.
A small number of students took part in a focus group run by the Local Authority this week looking at the local area and its services for young people. This experience not only gives the local planners young peoples voices for them to consider but also has given the students taking part an idea as to how public opinion can be sought over issues providing them with a very valuable experience.
Today we had staff karaoke organised by Year 10 students as part of a charity project raising money for Daisy’s Dreams a charity that supports young people through bereavement. The event was well supported and saw staff singing a variety of songs in various degrees of tunefulness. Well done to everyone involved very entertaining and not too painful on the ears!
The staff from Jamie’s Farm came into school this week to check in with the students who visited the Farm earlier this term. It was lovely to see the staff and the films that they have produced for the two groups. The groups and the staff caught up and chattered about the weeks they had and shared with the groups the memories of the week. The students particularly liked catching up with Bailey the therapy dog again. Thank you to The Sunninghill Trust who work with us in providing this opportunity for the students.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who have completed the survey on Smart Phones. The deadline for completing if you want to take part is Friday 29 November and you can do so by following this link.

As the days grow colder and the shops become increasingly more festive, we are launching our 2024 Department Wish Lists!
Each department has put together a range of items that would help to enhance the curriculum and bring the syllabus alive for their students.
You can view the 'wishes' here, and if you would like to grant a wish for a department, donations can be made via CAF Donate or on ParentPay.
Once you have done this, please email our Marketing Team so that they can order your 'wish' and deliver to the department in the new year.
Last year, the generosity of our wider community raised an astonishing £4224 to enhance the resources within departments. We appreciate that the cost of living is rising for everyone and more than ever we are grateful for every 'wish' that you grant.
PLEASE START THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR OFF TO A GOOD START BY BRINGING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOU. | |

HOPE CHURCH FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
