NEWSLETTER - 11 OCTOBER 2024
This week we highlighted Mental Health in young people by supporting the Charity Hello Yellow as students and staff were asked to wear something yellow to highlight the day, promote thoughts about mental health and individuals' mental wellbeing. Thank you to all the students who took part and also the Sixth Form team for organising the Yellow Ribbons that have been tied around the trees in the quad area, to not only highlight the day but to offer advice and ideas to individuals.
The school has raised over £700 to support Daisy’s Dream a bereavement charity that specialises in supporting children who suffer a bereavement. Sadly, the charity has supported students in the school so we know that they do incredible work in supporting young people. Thank you to Ms Annesley who organised the Sixth Formers who came up with the fundraising ideas.
The school has been awarded a Gold certificate for our GCSE progress score, which means that the results the students achieved this year are in the top 25% of schools in the country. This is measured by looking at the outcomes achieved by the students at the end of primary school and then comparing that to the GCSE outcomes they gained this summer.
A few weeks ago, 57 Year 12 and 13 students took part in the senior maths challenge a national competition run by the UK Mathematics Trust. Of the 57, 4 gained the gold award, 7 silver and 29 bronze. All the students who took part did very well indeed. Congratulations to all those who received an award and well one to all for taking part. You can read more in the newsflash below.
So, the Rubik’s cube challenge is on we have a Year 11 student who has completed a completely randomised cube in less than 16 seconds, yes 16 seconds!! Is anyone else willing to take on the challenge? You can see Will's amazing feat below!
All this week we have had our open mornings where Year 6 students with their families can tour the school to see us in operation. The weather has not been great, but the tours have been full, and our Student Tour Guides have done a wonderful job showing families around. A huge thank you to all of them. We had over 400 families tour the school site during this time, and the the week was topped off with a presentation to parents on Thursday evening. Thank you to all the Year 8 and Sixth Form tour guides who showed great leadership skills and confidence when delivering the tours and answering questions from parents and students.

CROSS COUNTRY
On Wednesday, the Year 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, and 10’s spent the morning at Down House School competing in Round 1 of the ESAA School’s Cross-Country Cup! The route took them through the forest with the Junior Girls running 2.2km, Inter Girls and Junior Boys running 2.5km and Inter Boys running 4km. They all ran excellently despite the wet and muddy conditions!
NETBALL
On Wednesday, the Year 11 girls played excellently in the Furze Platt Netball league - winning 3 out of 4 games! Well done
ATTENDANCE
The NHS has released guidance about sending students to school with different conditions. Please read the guidance as it provides very useful information for you to help support your child's attendance in school. There is an extremely strong correlation between success in school and attendance.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF
Can we please ask that people be considerate when parking and driving in the local area. We appreciate that we have a very defined time that creates localised congestion in the morning between 8:15 and 8:30 and in the afternoon from 3:00 to 3:20. It would be worth arranging to drop off and pick up your child away from the local area. A little walk to roads 400 to 800 metres away will not do anyone any harm. It will even add to the idea of independence and give the young people some extra exercise.

Come along and enjoy carving your own pumpkin with guidance on designs, Halloween music and remember to bring cash for drinks and baked goods!
We kindly ask a donation of at least £15 with all funds going to our chosen charity 'Daisy's Dream' a local child bereavement charity.
This event went live on Parent Pay yesterday and there are only 30 places available! Thank you for your support.
MUSIC
On Wednesday this week the music department led a trip to London to see the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra at Cadogan Hall. The music was fantastic and the students loved the pieces, particularly the Bernstein Symphonic Dances which were a mix of different melodies from West Side Story played by a full modern orchestra of nearly 100 musicians. The students were all excitedly talking about the music all the way home.
Calling all Year 7 Parents, your children have been preparing for the upcoming concerts on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 October at 5pm. Make sure you book your tickets on ParentPay to avoid disappointment. 7ABCFG on Tuesday & 7DEHI on Wednesday

ESFA COUNCIL VACANCY
The ESFA is seeking a parent of a schools’ footballer to join its Council. The Association is actively seeking to diversify its decision-making body and intends to appoint a parent of one of the thousands of schools’ footballers to the Council in order to better understand the experience of schools’ football from a customer perspective.
We have created an application pack, including a brochure about the role, an application form and diversity form and have housed them all on the ESFA website here: https://schoolsfootball.org/about-us/join-in/vacancies/
Parents of pupils who have played in the ESFA national competitions this season, have the opportunity to apply. Applications are to be submitted via email with both forms filled out to ESFA CEO, Andrea Chilton by Midday on 13 October 2024.
HOPE CHURCH FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
