News round up (4)

During the second break on Thursday, I was talking to some Year 7 students and noticed one of them playing with a Rubik's cube.  He said that his record was 37 seconds from a completely randomised cube, so the challenge had to be laid down.   The cube was randomised, he looked at it for 5 seconds and then said go! – the stopwatch started, and his fingers began to whirl the segments around, 45 seconds later the cube was complete.  Quite remarkable to watch! He informed me that the World record is 3 seconds, I am sure he has the Charters record, unless we have some challengers!

Since the start of the new school year, staff within each year group have voted to decide a ‘Star of Week’   This has been very popular amongst the students and the staff as well. Tutors nominate one of their tutees each week to their Head of Year who then puts one nomination forward.  The names of those selected for each year group will be published in the newsletter weekly to ensure they can be celebrated by the whole school community rather than just in their year team.  Well done to all of those who have been nominated so far and won.

Young MindsHELLO YELLOW

On Thursday- World Mental Health Day - all members of the Charters community are being encouraged to wear yellow in support of the charity Young Minds. It is also doubling up as a HOUSE competition.

Students in Years 7-11 will be expected to be in school uniform with yellow “accessories”, hair ribbons and ties, bracelets, ties, shoelaces, socks etc.

All students who have PE on Thursday are permitted to wear yellow sports socks, shorts, shirts.

For Sixth Form, the dress code still applies but we understand some students may not have yellow items of clothing, so we are asking they wear clothes that are either yellow or contain plants or floral patterns. This reflects this year's theme of growth, which we will be discussing with students in their assemblies throughout this week, as well as highlighting the importance of mental health at Charters. Further information for Sixth Formers can be found on their daily notice.

Those who would like to make a donation to support Young Minds, and show young people that they’re not alone with their mental health, can do so here. Thank you for your support.

MOCK INTERVIEWS - HELP NEEDED

Calling for Interviewers for our Year 11 Mock Interview week – Monday 21 – Friday 25 October 2024

As part of our Careers programme every year we hold Mock Interviews for our Year 11 students.  Part of the programme teaches the students basic interview techniques such as conduct, dress code and how to respond to questions.  A practical rehearsal of an interview is an invaluable experience to prepare the students for the future.

The sessions run every day from 9am-1.30 with a lunch break (provided!)  and each interview is scheduled to last no more than 20 minutes.  We supply you with relevant information from each student i.e. a CV and letter of application - and a list of typical questions.

We are inviting you to become an interviewer for the day, and if you are available and would like to offer your support for any of the days, please contact l.whittow@chartersschool.org.uk
