Reading for Pleasure
How many of us wish we could jet off to a tropical island, experience a day in the life of the rich and famous, or take a step back in time? Miss Joel explained to students during assemblies this week that you could do all those things by picking up a book and diving into its pages.
She explained that we all have a 'reading past' and a 'reading present', and that these experiences may have left us with a negative feeling towards literature. Miss Joel went on to say that there are so many different things to read, from comics and graphic novels, through to newspapers, recipe books and blogs that we can re-set our feelings towards reading a create a positive 'reading future'. She said that there is sure to be a subject and publication for everyone if you just know where to look!
Our school Librarian Mrs Olding has a wealth of knowledge, and our English teachers are never short of a recommendation or two for something to inspire you.
This year is packed with opportunities to help us all develop a love of reading and become Powerful Readers.
Charters School has a whole programme of events and initiatives which will take place during the 2024-25 academic year including:
•Literacy Challenges
•Powerful Reading Recommendations
•World Book Day – March 2025
•A new book club between staff & parents…your reading journey is truly never finished!
•House competitions like the summer reading challenge…
So, ignore the rain and wind that has been pummelling the country in recent weeks, grab a book, and walk in someone else's shoes for a couple of hours.
