NEWSLETTER - 12 JULY

News round up (4)

The Summer Concert was held this week and run by the Music department.  As always it was a wonderful event lifting the spirits during the gloomy month of July so far.  The department has run 3 major concerts, 6 chamber concerts, the carol service, Year 7 Tutor group choirs, hosted the RAF band, and held a Year 10 bands showcase as well as Caribbean and Indonesian drumming sessions.  It has certainly been a very busy year for the department!

Thursday has saw our Curriculum Enrichment Day take place where each year group took on a specific focus. Year 7 looked at Maths and Exercise, Year 8 at Ecosystems and Sustainable Development, Year 9 Handling the News and Year 10 focused on World Religions.   Thank you to all the staff for the organisation of these enrichment events and to the students for throwing themselves into the different tasks.

We also had the first performance of the Key Stage 3 play A Monster Calls on Thursday> It is a challenging play for all, but shows the real depth in the abilities of our students' acting to grapple with difficult themes.

We have had over 79 school trips, with 14 residentials in that number over the year, with each year group having at least one residential for the students to attend.   The busy Duke of Edinburgh season continues with the final expedition going out next week to complete the Gold Award.  Thank you to all the staff that make these trips possible.

Please ensure that you review the school website before purchasing a uniform for the new school year.  When students return in September, they will need to be wearing their blazers.

This week our students focused their attention on the values of Excellence, Resilience and Reasoning as they looked back on the current academic year. They have also been thinking about the goals they will set when we return to school in September. Next week we will look at Reasoning.
