Curriculum Enrichment Day 2024
Mid July can mean only one thing... Of course it's time for the annual Curriculum Enrichment Day!
Year 7 students took part in a whole day of fun activities linked to Maths. There were Aquatic, Brain, and Space Zones to explore, Puzzle Carousels, and back by popular demand The Trading Game, where students have to buy and sell commodities to make the most money.
Year 8 focused their attention on Science and looked at how we can increase biodiversity in new housing estates. The day was kindly sponsored by Taylor Wimpey & the students looked at their new Heatherwood Royal development as a starting point for their projects.
English was the segment of the curriculum being used for the Year 9 students, who became journalists, editors & art directors for the day as they created content for a range of different newspapers. News stories had to be carefully chosen to ensure they had the 'best fit' with their newspaper's demographic, and it was clear to see that this varied depending on the paper's political view and if it was a tabloid or broadsheet. The front page of each paper was judged by award-winning journalist & Charters Trustee, James Toney, so there was a lot to compete for.
And Year 10 students turned their attention to Religious Studies. The students took a closer look at different faiths, welcoming guest speaker Eric Cohen, who shared insights into the beliefs, teachings & practices of Judaism. Other workshops were created to look at Humanism, Islam, Christianity and Sikhism, and discussions were held regarding conflict and suffering.
It was a fantastic day with students in all year groups delving deeper into a different facet of the curriculum.
Our thanks to the staff members who worked so hard to ensure the day ran smoothly and for our guests James and Eric for giving up their time to enrich the day.
