NEWSLETTER - 5 JULY
Sports Day took place this week, always a highlight of the sporting calendar in school. Some fantastic times and distances were posted by students from across all year groups. It is always wonderful to see and hear the competition taking place.
We saw our school election this week with the members of the Sixth Form Social Action group organising the event. Each tutor group has acted as a constituency so they have been able to report on year group trends as well as overall school results, there are a few budding Prof Sir John Curtice’s . Students in Year 12 as they were close to voting age, had to show photographic ID to cast their vote, and further down the school the Sixth Formers involved in the organisation of the election visited each tutor group with a ballot box. The number of ‘seats’ or Tutor Groups won by each party were:
Catriona, who was part of the Year 12 team leading the initiative said:
While none of us at Charters were able to vote in the national election this time round, we were glad to take the opportunity to run a mock election, where all were given the chance to voice their own opinion. Across the school, we were not only able to further understand how democracy works in the UK and the importance of voting, but also give our own input about what issues matter to us as young people today and which parties we believe best represent us.
Catriona also provided some analysis to illustrate how the voting went:
Thank you to all who supported the Summer and the Three Peaks Challenge with your support across these two major events in school you have helped us raise over £15,000. All the monies will be used to support individuals in school and help us to provide the best possible opportunities for all in our community.
Over the Summer holiday, we have a few major projects taking place on the school site, the most significant of which is the installation of solar panels on all of the roof spaces that can accommodate the panel systems. This will enable us to a major step toward reducing our carbon footprint as a school.
Our own Sports Day this week, helped cement the values of Excellence, Motivation and Confidence that were being reviewed and linked nicely into next week's themes of Excellence, Resilience and Reasoning as students look back on their year and their achievements.

The Hope Church food bank takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
