NEWSLETTER - 30 JUNE

HIGHLIGHTS

All through this week we had visits from some of the new Year 7 students who will be joining us in September before they come in for the whole day on Tuesday 4 July.  It has been lovely to meet them and see them around school.

The second Year 7 residential trip to Swanage has been going on this week, the reports are that they have had a wonderful time in the sun developing their team-building skills and solving problems.

Last weekend the annual Year 8 Battlefields trip took place.  Students visited the Menin Gate to listen to the Last Post and reflect on the sacrifice made by individuals during World War I and serving members of the armed forces in the present day.  They also were able to visit the Battlefields and see what life was like in trenches for the soldiers.

This week sees the end of Pride Month, a yearly event highlighted across the country to help highlight the LGBTQ community and the contributions that they make to our society.

The pre-Sports Day events have been completed, the scene is set for finals day next week, and we are very much looking forward to Sports Day on Thursday.  We would like to remind parents that we do not allow parents to come and watch, I know this is a disappointment for some however we are unable to make sure that any parent area is supervised.  Thank you for your co operation and we apologise for any disappointment this may cause.

GETTING READY FOR SEPTEMBER 2024

I would like to remind you all of our uniform policy.  We have tried to simplify the uniform over the last three years, reducing costs and making it more equitable for all but still remaining smart.

We do believe that students should wear the uniform correctly as we believe it provides benefits for providing a level playing field for all in what they wear, helps create a sense of belonging and community, helps reduce peer pressure for trends in clothing and can help reduce socio-economic divides between students.

The uniform should be worn correctly; skirts should not be rolled up, jumpers not tied back, no trousers worn low on the waist, no trainers, no hoodies, and only school jumpers worn, are examples of what we mean.

Before any new uniform is purchased please check that it fits our school policy

Separately, but equally important, is the wearing of jewellery. Students are allowed one small stud.  Rings,  hoops, large studs, jewel-encrusted earrings and necklaces are not acceptable.  Anyone who wears jewellery for a religious reason needs to ensure that it is discreet ( for example a necklace should be inside a shirt or blouse)  and a request is made so we have a record.

We believe that wearing a uniform in school is important.  Should anyone need support with the school uniform please contact the school.

The results are in and we’re proud to announce our top scorers were…
Silver - Andrii and Luca
Bronze - Amy and Shriya
Highly Commended - Aaron, Ayra, Jamie, Lana and Matthew

Very well done to all the students.

FOOD BANK - EVERY TUESDAY

Food
12:00-1:00PM
SHARE Hope Church, Sunningdale
High Street, Sunningdale, SL5 7LY (next to Nag’s Head Pub)

Hate food waste? Come along to Hope Church Sunningdale FOOD BANK, open to ANYONE. We have mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) It would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

We operate a  one (standard size) shopping bag per family policy and use ticketing system to stagger entrance to the food bank. We ask that you enter through the side door. Tea/coffee/biscuits are available from 11:15 and during the food bank. Entrance tickets will be distributed just before the food bank opens at 12:00. We may need to limit some items so there is enough to share with everyone.
