Year 7 Student Plays in Charity Cricket Match
Year 7 student Thomas took part in a charity cricket match last weekend in Westerham, Kent. The event entitled Iggy's Friendly XI v Westerham CC was played in aid of Iggy's FUNd, a charity that raises money for brain tumour research.
Thomas tells us about the day...
"On Sunday 25th June I played in a charity cricket match for Iggy’s FUNd which is a charity that raises money for brain tumour research. Alan ‘Iggy’ Igglesden was a former England player, but more importantly, the friendliest guy in the world! He died in 2021 following a very long brain tumour battle.
On Sunday, I was lucky enough to open the batting and play alongside former county cricketers Neil Burns and Darren Stevens, and I eventually retired ‘not out’. I also kept wicket for the whole of the second innings.
Most of the players in the team were very good friends of Iggy and it was a privilege to play alongside them, and to retire ‘not out’ against adult bowling!"
Well done to Thomas for not only his superb cricket but his support of a very worthy charity. He got to meet a few famous faces, such as Phil Tufnell (above left) and he put in a great performance (including taking a catch). He was the only child player in an adult game, so a fantastic experience for his development in cricket.
Top top it off, his team won!
