NEWSLETTER - 18 OCTOBER 2024
This week saw one of my favourite events of the year, the Year 7 singing concerts. It is a right of passage through the school that helps the students work together as a team, try something new and entertain their parents as well as staff. From California Dreaming to Three Lions the students sang with gusto and their worried expressions soon turned into smiles as they began to work together and enjoy the occasion.
We had our Sixth Form open evening this week which was extremely busy with 600 visitors to the school. The families were able to look at our facilities as well as talk to staff about the courses they are considering. As part of the evening, the Student Leadership led the presentation in the Hall and the discussion in subject areas. The Year 10 prefects helped with the logistics and ensured that all visitors were parked quickly and efficiently. Applications for our Sixth Form are now open via the link below.
Congestion around the local roads at pick up
Students do not have to be picked up at 3:00, they can stay in school to complete work, attend extracurricular clubs or walk a few hundred metres from the school and be picked up. In picking up at 3:20 when most of the traffic has cleared you might even find yourself making quicker progress than trying to pick up at 3:00!
We have asked the local Police to support us as some parents park on yellow lines, the hatched areas half on pavements and are then rude to our staff to ask them to move and others complain about the congestion caused! You may have seen them here this week.

FOOTBALL
On Monday, the Year 11 boys travelled away to Sir William Ramsay School to play in Round 2 of the ESFA U16 Boys Cup. Our boys had a fantastic match as they took the win by 7-3 and are now on to Round 3!
BADMINTON
On Wednesday, our U16 boys had their first badminton match of the year against the Oratory School in the School Sport Magazine National Schools U16 Cup. The team of five played brilliantly, however, the Oratory school just managed to take the win in the end.
NETBALL
On Wednesday, the Year 7 girls had a great result in the Year 7 Setting Tournament at Furze Platt – winning 4 out of 6 matches. Well done girls!
AFTERNOON PICK UP - LEISURE CENTRE CAR PARK
We are receiving an increasing number of emails from concerned parents about pick up times at the Leisure Centre car park and the safety aspect of cars queueing on Devenish Road. If you normally pick up your child from this area, can you please fill up any spaces in the car park before queuing in the space, and queue further around the car park to ensure we can keep the road and entrance to the school as clear as possible. Your support with this is appreciated.
LANYARDS
After half term, students will be issued with lanyards to wear around the school site this is to help improve our safeguarding systems in school. The lanyard and card will be seen as part of the school uniform so students should have this with them when they are in school. We would suggest that it is worn around the neck with the card tucked into the inside blazer pocket allowing easy access if asked for.
After half term Year 11 students have their first set of Pre-Public Exams (PPEs), they will need their lanyards for this as a form of identity for each paper they sit, this part of the process we use in the Summer and at that point, their lanyards will be able to be used to leave sign in and out of school.
Lanyards will be handed out after half term. Students need to be always wearing these when on the school site.
