NEWSLETTER - 7 JUNE

News round up (4)

Welcome back the final term of the school year, it promises to be extremely busy with a lot of trips going out including homestay visits to Spain and France as well as the Year 8 History trip to Belgium for the Battlefields tour.  These, alongside Duke of Edinburgh, curriculum trips for Geography, Art, Drama and Biology mean that we have a residential trip nearly every week left in this academic year.   In addition, we have a Monster Calls and the Summer concert as well as Sports Day, the final event to determine who wins the House competition this year.

GREAT NEWS FROM THE DRAMA DEPARTMENT

As well as the wonderful drama productions and opportunities available in school, the Drama department is very good at providing opportunities outside of the classroom to expand students' experiences.   Look out for the Instagram post on the department's individual platform but they wanted to share the headlines with us.  Last night saw the the final Drama trip of the year so now seems a good time to publish the ‘stats’...

  • This was the 11th theatre trip of the school year
  • 557 theatre seats have been sat in by Charters students
  • 9 different theatres have been visited – Regional and West End
  • Every single year group have had the chance to attend a theatre trip this academic year

They are already booking for the next academic year!  Thank you to all the staff who help make these trips happen including Mrs Smith who works on all the administrative side, booking coaches, venues, sorting out insurance and medical forms.

Our Under 13 girls won the County Cup final! It was 1-0 to Maiden Erlegh School in the first half but the girls brought it back to 1-1, resulting in extra time. It then went into penalties which the girls won! They did a fantastic job! Congratulations to both schools on reaching the final and for Miss Male for coaching the team.

PLEASE PARK RESPONSIBLY

We have been contacted this week regarding irresponsible parking on the yellow zig zag lines in Charters Road.  While the responsibility for monitoring cars parked on the yellow zig zags lies with local parking enforcement officers, we do occasionally contact the local authority when we are aware of ongoing issues with parking issues, especially when they are causing an obstruction outside the school.  We have contacted the local authority again this week so that more regular checks by parking enforcement officers are carried out. We would therefore like to remind you to please park responsibly to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

GOOD HOME WANTED FOR PIANO - ONE CAREFUL OWNER

Twitter

The Music Department has a piano looking for a good home!  It is an upright Steinmann piano, and apart from three key covers needing to be replaced (available relatively cheaply), it is in a good condition.  There is no longer enough room for it in the Music department and they are happy to offer it free of charge to anyone who would like it.  It would need to be collected from school.

Please contact Mr P Stephenson (p.stephenson@chartersschool.org.uk) if you are interested.

YEAR 7 ART EXHIBITION

The Art department are proud to present a celebration of art by their Year 7 students on Monday 24 June from 15:30 to 18:00. Please join us for this free event in the Sixth Form Common Room.

WINDSOR LEARNING PARTNERSHIP
PERFORMING ARTS OPPORTUNITY

An opportunity has been offered to Charters School Performing Arts students to collaborate with the Windsor Learning Partnership and perform a series of musical medleys including songs from Matilda, The Lion King and The Beatles. The concert will be held in the prestigious Farrer Theatre in Eton with a variety of other schools on Wednesday 3rd July. More information will be given to the students during their assemblies next week.

If your child is interested in this fantastic opportunity they should attend an audition on Tuesday 11 June at 2nd break in M2. There is nothing that needs to be prepared, students should arrive with a willingness to get involved and do some singing.

If you have any questions, please email Mr Hoare: a.hoare@chartersschool.org.uk

HOPE CHURCH FOOD BANK

Capture

The Hope Church food bank takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
