News round up (4)

The weather has certainly started to warm up this week after a few miserable wet weeks.  The Year 10 boys football team have won the district league and has been promoted to the premiership for next year.  Mr Cummer has channelled his inner ‘Arteta’ to guide the team to the top of the league, it looks like the trip to the Arsenal training ground at London Colney paid off!

Year 9 and Year 10 students saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking.  They had a wonderful evening, but how times have changed in the respect of not one of them was scared by the Childcatcher!  A member of the audience was so impressed with how polite and engaged the students were,  they stopped a member of staff after the interval to compliment the students.

As we know the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards are in full swing with over 110 students taking part in the Bronze practice weekend last week.  Well done to them all in such hot conditions.

NEWSFLASH (6)A PERSONAL BEST FEST

We saw several students perform well at sporting events recently.  Year 11 Olly competed in the Berkshire County Champs at Long Jump and  was looking forward to setting a new PB to help increase his points for the Combined Events competition. He smashed his personal best by more than 20cm with a jump of 6.06m and hopes to represent Berkshire in the regional inter-counties later this year.

Year 8 Bethany also competed at these Championships, getting to the finals for her three events – 75m Hurdles, 100M and 200M. Bethany got a PB in the Hurdles, the Heat of the 200M and then beat that PB in the 200m in the final, so 3 PB’s in one day!  Year 9 Annabelle was also there, and despite a knee injury which meant she had to pull out after reaching the 100 and 300m finals, she cheered on her peers across the two-day event.

At the Surrey County Championships, Year 9 Holly also improved on her season, making it through to two finals in the 800m and 100m and achieving two fantastic PB’s!

Well done to all students who take part in these extra curricular events at weekends, we enjoy hearing about your success.
