NEWSLETTER - 10 MAY
Friday last week was the May Ball for Year 13, the annual celebration of their time in the Sixth Form just before their public examinations start next week. As always it was wonderful to see them all have a lovely time enjoying each other's company. Who would have thought that Queen tracks and 1990’s Dance tracks would pack the dance floor!
Today was Year 13’s last day in school and their leavers assembly, a mixture of reminiscing and looking forward was at the heart of the celebration of their time in the Sixth Form. We wish them all the very best for their forthcoming exams and look forward to celebrating with them on 15 August when they get their results.
We received the Junior Maths Challenge results earlier this week, well done to the 130 students in Years 7 & 8 for taking part. There were some very impressive scores across the cohort. Congratulations go to the 64 students who achieved either a Gold, Silver or Bronze.
The long wait for Year 11 students is over as they start their main body of GCSEs this week. We wish them all the best and are sure that their hard work and preparation in revision will pay off for them.

Our next Pre-Loved Uniform COLLECTION will take place on THURSDAY 16 MAY and the SALE will take place on THURSDAY 23 MAY. Both from 3 to 3.30pm from the shelter in the LEISURE CENTRE CAR PARK.
Donations of Skirts, Jumpers & Polo Shirts would be much appreciated as we are running low.
Please only donate items that you would be happy for your own child to wear and ensure clothing is clean and ironed.
Additionally, there will be a Pre-Loved Uniform stall at our Summer Fair on Saturday 29 June - further information on donations for that will be shared nearer the time.
Thank you for your support.
SUMMER FAIR VOLUNTEERS AND GARDENERS!
With the Summer Fair now less than two months away, we are turning our attention to the various stalls that will need your support.
May is generally the month when the days become a little longer, and the temperature a little warmer - although this year seems to be the exception - and it’s the perfect time to get out into the garden. We’d love the green-fingered amongst you to think about splitting or taking cuttings of your existing plants as we need lots of variety on our plant stall. Young and old can get involved and there’s nothing better than growing something from seed and donating the plants for us to sell at the Fair.
We also need volunteers to get involved on the day, so if you could spare an hour to man the pre-loved uniform, tombola, drinks or raffle we’d love to hear from you. We don’t expect you to volunteer for the entire Fair as we really want everyone to experience this wonderful community event, but if you can spare an hour please do get in touch by emailing our marketing team
THIS WEEK'S THREE PEAKS REVEAL
Drum-roll please... our final intrepid adventurer completing the Charters' Three Peak Team is Dr Herbert!
So there we have it..The Terrific Ten: Mr Fletcher, Mr Cumner, Mr Metson, Mrs Hopkins, Mr Ruddle, Miss De'Ath, Mr Lambert, Mr King, Mr Espensen & Dr Herbert !
You can follow their progress leading up to the big event via our social media channels and the team will set off in seven weeks to scale the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in under 24 hours. They are putting themselves through the challenge in order to raise £10,000 for our Unity Fund which aims to support students whose families may be experiencing financial difficulties.
We've now raised over 50% of our target!
Thank you to EVERYONE who has supported this initiative, at whatever level. We are so grateful for your help.
Donations to help us reach our goal can be made below:
OFCOM RESTRICTIONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
This week we have seen the first moves by the Government to restrict, in a meaningful way, social media exposure to younger teenagers. This is such an important move for individuals' well-being and mental health. So much of the support we now have to give in school and incidents we deal with when traced back are rooted in social media information or social media posts.
We would urge you to restrict and check your children's use of phones and social media and certainly limit the number of hours each day they have access to their phones. It is our view that this legislation cannot come quickly enough.
FOSTER CARE FORTNIGHT
Make a difference for a local child: Foster care with the Royal Borough
Become a foster carer with the Royal Borough and make a difference for a local child in your community. Providing a secure, stable and supportive home for a child or young person is a valuable and rewarding paid role.
We need more people from all walks of life to look after a range of local children and young people in the short- or longer-term, including teenagers, sibling groups and children with a disability, who for different reasons cannot live with their parents.
Many different people can provide a caring home. We welcome enquiries from anyone aged 21 or over, regardless of income, employment status, gender, sexuality, religion, whether or not you have pets, own your home or rent.
In return, we offer our foster carers excellent support, training and benefits via our in-house independent fostering agency, Achieving for Children Fostering, which provides foster care services for the Royal Borough, Kingston and Richmond councils.
Visit www.afcfostering.org.uk and contact Achieving for Children at fosteringenquiries@achievingforchildren.org.uk or call 020 8547 5355.

The Hope Church food bank takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
