News round up (4)

On Wednesday during the whole school Personal Development lesson, we hosted two visitors from the Local Authority Planning Department who worked with 20 of our students, from across all year groups, to gather their views on the 'area plan' and what they would like it to include from a young person's viewpoint.  Some ideas were fascinating and well-received by team.

Two adventurers Ed and Karl, one the father of a Year 11 student, took assemblies this week outlining their plans to row across the Atlantic, yes row across the Atlantic!, later this year.  They talked about the training they are going through both physically and mentally to take on this huge adventure.  We wish them all the best as they take on this challenge, it makes our Three Peaks challenge look like a walk to the shops!  You can read the full story in the News section below

The Year Group Councils also took place this week, discussing ideas that they are taking to the School Council next week.  In a week of local elections, these councils give the students an idea of how debates and conversations should be held constructively and developmentally in order to hear all those who have ideas.

Motivation has been the focus for our students this week and assemblies have been themed to reflect this character pillar.

Next week our focus will be on Unity, Compassion and Civility as we approach Mental Health Awareness Week commencing 13 May.

PRE-LOVED UNIFORM COLLECTION / SALE

TWITTER post (86)

Our next Pre-Loved Uniform COLLECTION will take place on THURSDAY 16 MAY & the SALE will take place on THURSDAY 23 MAY. Both from 3 to 3.30pm from the shelter in the LEISURE CENTRE CAR PARK.

Donations of Skirts, Jumpers & Polo Shirts would be much appreciated as we are running low.

Please only donate items that you would be happy for your own child to wear and ensure clothing is clean and ironed.

Additionally, there will be a Pre-Loved Uniform stall at our Summer Fair on Saturday 29 June - further information on donations for that will be shared nearer the time.

Thank you for your support.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS

We would like to thank the parents and carers who donated an item for our Summer Draw or Bottle Tombola last night when they attended the Year 7 parents evening. We received a huge variety of gifts which we will use to create hampers and prizes for the Summer Fair on 29 June. Those wishing to donate a bottle or gift can do so by popping into the Main Reception. Thank you, as always as it really helps when many people donate a small amount.

SUMMER FAIR VOLUNTEERS AND GARDENERS!

With the Summer Fair now less than two months away, we are turning our attention to the various stalls that will need your support.

May is generally the month when the days become a little longer, and the temperature a little warmer - although this year seems to be the exception - and it’s the perfect time to get out into the garden. We’d love the green-fingered amongst you to think about splitting or taking cuttings of your existing plants as we need lots of variety on our plant stall. Young and old can get involved and there’s nothing better than growing something from seed and donating the plants for us to sell at the Fair.

We also need volunteers to get involved on the day, so if you could spare an hour to man the pre-loved uniform, tombola, drinks or raffle we’d love to hear from you. We don’t expect you to volunteer for the entire Fair as we really want everyone to experience this wonderful community event, but if you can spare an hour please do get in touch by emailing our marketing team

DETENTIONS

The reason and context for detentions are explained on Class Charts. As such, before contacting staff and creating increased email traffic, can parents please read Class Charts first as it will answer many of the questions being asked.

LOCAL ROADS AND PARKING

It seems that we are constantly asking drivers picking up students to be mindful of residents and our Sixth Formers as well.  The detached field car park is not a drop-off or pick-up point so please do not wait for your sons and daughters in this area.  Thank you to all of you who are respectful of our residents and the younger drivers who use the detached field car park.

ROYAL WINDSOR FLOWER SHOW

Windsor Great Park
10am-6pm, 8 June 2024

The 117th Royal Windsor Flower Show is rapidly approaching, and there are a couple of ways for everyone to get involved this year.

You can enter our Competition Classes. We have categories for children 6 years old and under, 7 – 11 year olds, 12 – 16 year olds, and adults. The categories range from homegrown produce to arts, crafts, cookery, baking, photography, and more.

There is also a chance for your community to enter our brand new competition class this year, The Community Container Award, where we are encouraging communities of two or more people to create an in-the-round planting display in a recycled container. Full details can be found on page 13 of the Competition Schedule. This competition class makes a perfect project for a school gardening club or for children who are studying plants in class.

Here is the Competition Class Schedule, which provides all the information you need about the competition classes, rules, and how to enter.

RWRHS Honorary President Alan Titchmarsh will open the Royal Windsor Flower Show, and there is a lot going on, including the inspiring central show garden and planting displays by exceptional gardeners, Great British Plant Nurseries, creative workshops for all ages, craft activities, gardening activities and a well-being tipi. Plus, thought-provoking talks, top-notch exhibitions, live entertainment, food and drink and more. We hope members of your school community can join us on the day. Please click here for more information and Show tickets.

The Royal Windsor Flower Show raises money for the charitable causes of The Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society.

HOPE CHURCH FOOD BANK

Capture

The Hope Church food bank takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
