Year 9 & 10 Trip to Come From Away
Alice and Sabrina from Year 9 were two of the students who joined the recent theatre trip to see Come From Away, the moving musical about the true story of how 7,000 stranded passengers during 9/11 were welcomed by the residents of a small town in Newfoundland. As tensions ran high, uneasiness turned into trust and friendships were built. Alice and Sabrina (along with the other Year 9 and 10 students) enjoyed the whole experience and have provided a report to share the evening with you...
Report by Alice & Sabrina
The Drama department organised an amazing trip to the show Come From Away in Oxford for Year 9 and 10 students. We were two of the lucky people who got to go on it!
The journey began as we departed Charters, the excitement also began simultaneously. Whether you were listening to music, looking out the windows or talking to your friends about the show, the journey set it up to be the perfect evening .
As we got nearer to the theatre the anticipation built . When we got our tickets, walked to the theatre and got in our seats (which had a perfect view of the stage) you could feel everyone buzzing with excitement .
The stage setup was inspiring, as well as the theatre's walls that framed it. The show itself was very enjoyable . The performance linked to our former lessons perfectly as we could see some of the techniques come to life. Although the 9/11 theme seemed harrowing, the show brought to life the small heroic town of Newfoundland which homed the passengers of many planes that had to be landed due to the disaster, and gave us a deeper understanding into how 9/11 impacted so many lives .
On the way home we reflected on the show and discussed how much we loved this drama trip.
We want to thank the Drama department especially Mrs Ring for organising and taking us on this amazing trip!
