NEWSLETTER - 19 APRIL

News round up (4)

A very warm (hopefully) welcome back to the Summer term.  We have come back to our canteen area having had a refurbishment and the Sixth Form café having the same.  Thank you to our catering provider Cucina for investing in the areas.  It has certainly refreshed the whole area and made the Dining Hall look far more modern and an inviting place to be while the Sixth Form Café has a much more comprehensive offer for the students.

The first Year 7 residential has taken place this week with students going down to Cumulus Outdoors in Dorset to have 5 days of adventure training, getting cold, wet and muddy with their friends.  On the trip, the students are not allowed access to their mobile phones for the whole time, so it really has been a fantastic break away given a chance for a full reset on mind and body.

Our Foundation Project Qualification (FPQ) students in Year 8 are hard at work completing their project pieces ready for submission.  They have been developing their research, analytical, written and presentation skills in the process.

Over the forthcoming term, there is a lot going most notably all the public examinations, so we ask that students are quiet in the areas where exams are taking place across the school, there is always very clear signage in the areas as a reminder.

RBWM AND THE ‘LIVE WITHOUT A KNIFE' PROGRAMME

As students, parents and carers will be aware, the school works closely with Thames Valley Police in a number of ways. Although we are thankful that knife crime is not something that we are having to manage in our own setting, we are always proactively looking at ways to keep our school community safe. TVP have asked us to share a document about their most recent initiative ‘Live Life
Without a Knife’, which you can find here. There are contact details on the sheet which you can use if you do have any concerns.

MOBILE PHONE POLICY

A few students and parents have recently queried details regarding our mobile phone policy. The policy which can be found here, has been in place for a number of years now, and we have found it to be very effective in terms of students avoiding distraction in the classroom. There are also some FAQs that have been answered on the sheet here. We will be asking colleagues in school to remind students of the policy, and in particular that mobile phone and other devices (including headphones/AirPods etc) should be turned off and in bags from the time the enter the school gate until they leave through the gate. This means that phones should not be in trouser or blazer pockets. This policy runs through to 3:15pm. I know that there is a lot of support for our robust yet reasonable approach from the wider school community here, and it is appreciated.

HOPE CHURCH FOOD BANK

Capture

The Hope Church food bank takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
