News round up (4)

Hearing how excited the students have been about some of the extracurricular events that have taken place this week has been wonderful.  The Drama department took a group of 50 students to see Metamorphosis at the Lyric in London, the PE department took 50 students to see the Surrey Storm play in Guildford at against the London Pulse.  Sadly, they lost but the girls got to see lots of international players as well as developing internationals in the line-ups. The Music department hosted its termly Chamber Concert in the Sixth Form area.   I know that all students who have taken part in the concert and trips have had a fantastic time, thank you to all the staff.

On top of this, in school this week we had the Valentine Bake sale, which not only helped raise money (a staggering £590) but also enabled members of the community to show off their excellent baking skills.  Thank you to Mrs Hartwell for organising it and all who showed their support.  As it was Mrs Hartwell, an avid fan of Bournemouth FC, who brought it all together there were a few Cherries on the cakes!

I am delighted to announce that this summer, myself and nine colleagues will be attempting to complete the Three Peaks Challenge and it is great to be part of the team.  As someone who does a lot of running and walking in the mountains, it is great to take on this challenge and for such a great cause in our school - helping to raise money for the UNITY Fund.  There are many hours and miles of training ahead with sore muscles but it will be worth it when we descend Yr Wyddfa,or Snowdon in English, in under 24 hours having already gone up and down Ben Nevis and Scarfell Pike!

Wishing you all a restful half-term.

SNAPCHAT

Sadly we have continued to have to deal with the fallout of disagreement over SNAPCHAT, it is quite frankly exhausting for staff at school to have to spend so much time unpicking the comments that have been or are alleged to have been made.   The world would be a much better place without SNAPCHAT from my viewpoint.  I do know that the genie is out of the bottle and that we have to now work on helping young people use it responsibly, as part of this we ask parents and carers to also have these conversations and also check your child's phone.

VALENTINE BAKE SALE

Thanks to all your wonderful baking, making, buying and trying, the Bake Sale raised an impressive £590 for our House Charities!  It was tough to choose best design but our winners were:

  • CELEBRATION CAKE -  Ellie Yr7
  • CUP CAKES - Olivia Yr8
  • STAFF - Mrs Harbord
  • MOST DONATIONS - Panthers

Thank you to everyone for making it such a success.

PRE-LOVED UNIFORM

Thank you everyone who has donated, help sort or purchased items. We raised £58 at the sale this week.  We will look to have our next collection and sale at the end of the term before Easter. Donations can be made on Monday 25 March, with the sale taking place on Wednesday 27 March.

WORLD BOOK DAY

Wbd

As World Book Day approaches, students will be receiving World Book Day tokens from tutors this week, to use when the books come out during half term on 15 February.

Students may want to use them on WBD books, or as a discount voucher on another book, perhaps to help with revision or wider reading around study subjects.  Sixth form students are not automatically given tokens but are more than welcome to come and request them in the Library, where the Librarian will be more than happy to provide them.

Details of this year's design competition can be found here: https://www.worldbookday.com/competition/design-a-nbt/ - winners receive tokens for themselves, for other students in their class and for the school.  This is open to students up to 16 years and again, half term might provide an opportunity for those interested to start on their designs.

HOPE CHURCH FOOD BANK

Capture

The Hope Church food bank takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
