The Globe Players
On Friday 9th February, the hugely successful and highly acclaimed Globe Players returned to Charters School to support and enrich students' study of Shakespeare. Year 9 are currently exploring 'Macbeth' and Year 10 'Romeo and Juliet'.
Staged in 'the round', (echoing the format of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre) the actors performed each year group's respective text of study, incorporating commentary to support students' analysis of the play. The company then hosted a Q&A session which students had prepared for with their English teachers, exploring questions such as 'Is Macbeth inherently evil?' ; 'What is the most pivotal moment in 'Romeo and Juliet' and why?'.
The productions helped bring to life Shakespeare's words for our students and gave them a wonderful opportunity to discuss the plays in depth. The actors commented that they 'weren't used to such good questions' and that they 'hoped every audience in the future would be as wonderful as their audience was today'. We are of course immensley proud of how well our students conducted themselves.
