HIGHLIGHTS
Last weekend saw the start of the Duke of Edinburgh season with over 150 students taking part in the first practice weekend. It was lovely to hear how they got on and how they learnt from their mistakes, which hopefully will help them on the assessment weekend. Thank you to the staff who gave up their weekend to support the students.
The schools careers team, through the use of UNIFROG and other online systems, are providing very comprehensive support and raising awareness of opportunities for all age groups. If you are able to join us on Twitter, or have access to the Upcoming Opportunities page of the school website, you will have easy access to the links and opportunities that are being provided.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR TUESDAY 2 MAY
Year 11, 12 & 13 students will be in school on Tuesday 2 May with all other year groups having online lessons. It is important that where lessons are running online, students must attend. In order to monitor engagement, staff will log on ClassCharts if students are absent from the lesson.
Students in Year 11 will need to go to the Sports Hall for an assembly where arrangements for the day will be explained.
PICK UP AND DROP OFF IN THE DETACHED CAR PARK
Can we remind parents of the need to park in a sensible manner when picking up, inconsiderate parking is leading to congestion on the road and in the car park.

NOTICES
MY AI
We have been made aware of a new SnapChat feature called 'My AI' which is a Chatbot that has made contact with a significant number of users over the last week to start a conversation. More information can be found on the tool at https://help.snapchat.com/hc/en-gb/articles/13266788358932-What-is-My-AI-on-Snapchat-and-how-do-I-use-it-. In this guidance by SnapChat it warns: "My AI’s responses may include biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading content." We have spoken to students who have experienced this whilst using the feature.
There is a way of blocking the feature, details of which you can find on the link.
We will send out more information as we are made aware of it however wanted to flag this early so that you are able to discuss this with your child and check their settings and interactions.
SUMMER FESTIVAL DONATIONS
During our Summer Festival on 15 July we will be running a Bottle Tombola and we are asking Year 7 parents if they can donate a bottle when they attend the Year 7 Parents’ Evening next week.
If you have a spare bottle knocking around the house, our Marketing Team will be collecting items in The Main Reception on Thursday 4 May. Wine, bubble bath, perfume, olive oil… everything is welcome!
We hope that many of you will be able to join us at the Summer Festival on 15 July between 11am and 3pm to help us celebrate our 65th birthday and would like to thank all those who are able to donate a bottle next week.
Thank you
SECOND HAND UNIFORM
We are conscious that the rising cost of living is having an impact on all of us and we would like to create a Second Hand Uniform stall at our forthcoming Charters Festival. We hope to offer the following items for parent/carers to select on a ‘pay what you feel’ basis during the event:
- Blazers
- Skirts
- Trousers
- White Shirts
- Polo Shirts
- Navy Pullovers
- Junior Ties
- Senior Ties
- PE Polo Shirts
- Rugby Shirts
- PE Base Layers (Tops and Leggings)
- PE Shorts
- PE Skorts
- PE Fitness Shorts
- PE Tracksuit Pants
- Football/Hockey Socks
- School Shoes (Formal plain, flat, black shoes that can be polished)
- Trainers
The idea is not to make a great deal of money, but to provide a way for parents to clear their wardrobes of unwanted items, share resources and help save a few pounds at the same time.
We will be collecting donations on Friday 12 May from 8am - 8.30am and 2.45pm -3.15pm. To make it as easy as we can for people to donate to this initiative, volunteers will be waiting to receive clothing in the wooden shelter adjacent to the Leisure Centre car park during these times. If you bring your child to school by car and would like to donate, please use the car park off Devenish Road so that items can be left either before or after school.
If your child makes their way to school on foot or via the school bus, please ask them to deliver the items to the shelter before they go to registration.
Please do not send in items to the Main Reception
There are just a few rules to follow:
- Please only donate items you would be happy for your own child to wear
- Donated items must be clean and ironed (on hangers would be helpful but not essential)
We very much hope that this initiative will help our school community save a little money whilst also helping to protect our planet. Thank you for your support.
REQUEST FOR CONSIDERATE PARKING
We have recently received a request from a resident near Addington Close, Windsor, to ask that we mention to families parking near this area, to avoid parking on the double yellow lines and near the entrance to the close. We believe this might be an area that is used by students using the Number 23 bus service, but it has been reported that this is happening regularly and is causing a real obstruction and safety hazard to local residents and other road users. Please could we ask that anyone parking in this area parks legally, safely, and with consideration of local residents. Thank you.
26.2 MILES
Well done to Rob our Site Manager who ran the London Marathon last weekend and raised a fantastic £1340 for the Teenage Cancer Trust .
Anyone who would still like to make a donation can do so through his #JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/robert-brocklehurst101
COMMUNITY
A new and free inclusive cricket session is being held by the Berkshire Cricket Foundation at Slough Cricket Club on Tuesday from 5-6pm and I would love for as many young people with a disability in Slough to come along.
The session is completely FREE for people that wish to attend and will run weekly throughout the summer. We currently have 3 other disability cricket sessions running throughout Berkshire so there is opportunity for people to play against other teams should they wish.
For more information and to reserve your child's space please contact

FOOD BANK - EVERY TUESDAY
12:00-1:00PM
SHARE Hope Church, Sunningdale
High Street, Sunningdale, SL5 7LY (next to Nag’s Head Pub)
Hate food waste? Come along to Hope Church Sunningdale FOOD BANK, open to ANYONE. We have mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) It would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
We operate a one (standard size) shopping bag per family policy and use ticketing system to stagger entrance to the food bank. We ask that you enter through the side door. Tea/coffee/biscuits are available from 11:15 and during the food bank. Entrance tickets will be distributed just before the food bank opens at 12:00. We may need to limit some items so there is enough to share with everyone.
