HIGHLIGHTS
The weather has been somewhat inclement this week in our first full week back after the break. We are up and running and back to the fast pace that school works at, already we have seen auditions for the Key Stage 3 play, Oliver, ready for the performance in June.
Year 11 Food Technology students had two professional chef’s come into their lesson this week to demonstrate and teach them how to fillet a fish and also how to prepare a whole chicken. It was great to see and hear the students embrace, for what was for some, a messy task. One the students I saw later said ‘ it was a great lesson I really enjoyed it’.
I would l like to thank the Year 10 tutor group that sent me their listening tips of great music after I subjected Year 10 and Year 7 to my favourite tracks. The Year 10 suggestions certainly gave me a new artist to listen to, they have been added to my playlist.
JANE METSON FOUNDATION
We support this foundation as part of charity work in school by raising money. The foundation then supports various charities both home and abroad. This year our donation of £583 was given to Motivation a charity that provide wheelchairs for individual in economical less developed countries. Thank you to all the students, families and staff who have supported the foundation last year. The foundation has also supported other charities, including the Purple Community Fund in the Philippines working at a local level to provide social and food support for families, and also the Orchid Project that works in communities trying to reduced F.G.M and cutting of young girls.
STAFF AND SIXTH FORM BOOK CLUB
Our second 'Staff and Sixth Form Book Club' meeting was another success. Lots of interesting and insightful discussions about 'Still Life' by Sarah Winman were had - the author even commented on the English Department's Instagram post! The book was given an overall rating of 3.9 out of 5. A big thank you to Year 12 student, Libby who helped to run the session and all of our amazing attendees. All of the attendees nominated a recommendation for our next book, and one recommendation was picked out of a hat... If you would like to read along with staff and students, the book we are reading for our next meeting is:

NATIONAL ONLINE SAFETY
We continue to subscribe to National Online Safety and use their resources in school to support both parents and pupils. Following on from the information sent out last week in regard to new devices and setting up parental monitoring and ensuring devices are safe, we thought it would be useful for you to have the guides about Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok (the primary social media platforms used by our students) which can be viewed by clicking the images below:
These are repeats of information sent out last year but give information about a range of topics including addition, in app purchases, public and private accounts and cyber bullying.
As always if you have any concerns with your child’s e-safety then please contact their tutor or head of year to access advice and support.
COPPER COINS STILL NEEDED
Thank you to all who have already sent in their spare copper coins. The Maths department is looking for donations of 1p and 2p coins so that students can take part in the TRADING GAME this term and so if you have any coins you can donate it would be most appreciated. Many Thanks!
