THIS WEEK
HIGHLIGHTS
Science Week has been fantastic. It has been wonderful to welcome external speakers to the school and see the al-fresco experiments being held during Second Break in the large quad area, they have certainly been fascinating to watch.
The Senior Student Team have given feedback to senior staff in school around five key questions about Personal Development provision in school. They have investigated this through both the Year Group and Whole School Councils. The entire team were highly professional in their presentation skills. The information provided was extremely useful and will inform our planning for next year.
The Head Boy and Head Girl will also be presenting their findings to the School's Trustees on Monday evening.
This week has seen a number of Careers events taking place including an Enterprise Day for Year 9 students and a Careers Fair in the School Hall, where local and national employers spoke to students in Years 9 to Sixth Form. The students have had wonderful opportunities to explore possible careers, indeed some even discovered careers that they never knew existed.
THANK YOU
Thank you for supporting Abi and Keira with their row for Ukraine last weekend. The girls joined other Junior rowers at Staines Boat Club to raise an astonishing £4164 for the people of Ukraine.
The Juniors rowed a combined distance of 379,855m and it was a brilliant effort by a group of young people who understood the real need to help others.
There have been numerous donations from the Charters community and we thank you for showing your Unity and supporting this fundraising initiative.
MUFTI DAY
We have been showing our support for the large number of people displaced by the recent war in Ukraine. We have collected supplies through the Sixth Form and sent them to the area via one of the national collection points. As a show of support, we have also flown the Ukraine flag at school, knitted blankets as part of our Sixth Form's enrichment activities and provided information for students around what is happening in Ukraine and why.
We will hold a mufti day on Monday 28 March to raise money for the victims affected by this terrible situation. All monies collected will be paid to the Disaster Emergency Committee DEC. We will be asking students to wear blue and yellow on the day to show support for the millions of people whose lives have been turned upside down by the war and are being persecuted by President Putin.
We ask for a donation of a minimum of £1 which will be collected in school.
TRAFFIC AT THE FRONT OF SCHOOL DURING PICKUP
I seem on numerous occasions to be writing pieces about traffic in the surrounding area. We are fortunate to have the drop off area at the front of school and the large area at the back of school for people to pick up, yet still that is not enough.
The drop off area at the front of school is becoming increasingly congested due to people being inconsiderate. The outside lane is to allow cars to pass, it is not to park in. Parking in this lane causes even more congestion to build up on Charters Road. If this lane is kept clear we will have a better flow of traffic for everyone.
If you picking up a child and you are unsure of the time they will come out then please go to the back of the school where there is a better flow of traffic and also spaces to park.
Can we please ensure that we are considerate to all including the staff on duty, after all if no one parked in the outside lane it wouldn’t be an issue.
Even better, as we have suggested on a number of occasions, it would be helpful for students to walk whenever possible.
ATTENDANCE
Our first round of fortnightly attendance emails was sent out this week. As was mentioned in last week's newsletter these emails highlight the attendance in the previous two week period.
We appreciate that appointments fall during school time and that individuals are poorly. Families may not know what the impact of days off can be as they accumulate across a whole school year. We therefore want to ensure that all families have fortnightly communication so they have this important information on a regular basis.
