This week marked the end of an era at Charters School as we bid a heartfelt farewell to our beloved groundsman, Eric Smith, who is retiring after an incredible 36 years of dedicated service.

Eric has been the quiet, constant presence behind the pristine grounds that our students, staff, and visitors have enjoyed for nearly four decades. Whether under a summer sun or a winter frost, his commitment to maintaining the beauty and order of our school environment never wavered. His work was more than a job - it was a labour of love that has left a lasting legacy.

Eric was not only a member of staff but a true part of our school family. His kindness, steady presence, and tireless work ethic made him a much-loved figure across our entire community.

To celebrate his retirement and express our deep appreciation, students lined the school paths in a moving guard of honour, applauding as Eric made his final walk through the grounds he so carefully nurtured. It was a touching tribute from the many young lives he’s quietly impacted through the years.

In a lasting tribute, the PE Department has renamed the school's detached field to the Eric Smith Playing Fields, ensuring that his name and contribution will be remembered by generations to come.
