Neurodiversity Week

Neurodiversity week is celebrated across the UK from 17 - 23 March and students who are supported by our Learning Support Centre have been hard at work creating an art installation to mark the occasion. Neurodiversity is a term used to describe the naturally occurring variations of the human brain and these different cognitive capabilities are expressed through unique talents, intelligence and a range of alternative thinking styles including Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia and Dyslexia.
The umbrella project celebrates the intelligence, ability and talent of every human being and was conceived by the ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity charity who has been displaying installations all across the UK for the past five years. The installations consist of brightly coloured umbrellas suspended above streets and public spaces and for 2025 they hope to display these uplifting artworks even further across the UK and Europe.
This Neurodiversity Week at Charters, we are celebrating the incredible diversity of minds within our school community and embracing the strengths and talents that make each of us special by creating our own unique display with umbrellas as the basis for the artwork. Every neurodivergent student and staff member has their own distinctive profile, and no two people experience the world in exactly the same way.
Neurodiversity Week is just one way to recognise everyone's beautifully complex mix of strengths and challenges.
