Free & Equal Ambassadors Programme Launches

At Charters School, we believe that every student has the power to create positive change, and today marks an exciting step in that journey. Our newly appointed Free & Equal Ambassadors took part in their first training session, equipping them with the skills and confidence to challenge discrimination and foster a more inclusive school culture.
The Free & Equal Ambassador Programme is designed to empower students to speak up about issues such as racism, misogyny, and LGBTQ+phobia. By harnessing the power of peer leadership, the initiative aims to mobilise students to take an active role in shaping a school environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
The students will work closely with staff and peers to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and promote equality across the school. Through workshops, discussions, and events, they will help build a culture where discrimination has no place and inclusivity thrives.
Not only does this programme provide students with a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership and advocacy skills, but it also offers certified training that will be valuable for future education and career pathways. Sixth Form student Michaela said, "The 'Free and Equal' program is a great opportunity for all students at Charters to engage in as it provides us all with excellent tools and knowledge on various inequalities around us at school and just within our general communities. This allows us to develop one of our most crucial assets, our voices! Going forward I will ensure I recognise unjust behaviour and provide equity instead of equality to reinforce our core school values of Unity, Respect and Excellence. Together we can achieve great things!"
The The Free & Equal Ambassadors are being supported by Mrs Grant-Miller and Mr Metson. When asked about the impact this initiative can make to the school Mr Metson said, "The Free and Equal Ambassador training was excellent and it will provide a springboard for our fantastic student ambassadors to become more empowered to support, educate and challenge members of our school community. This whole programme ties in with our school motto of Unity, Respect and Excellence and will have a lasting and positive impact both within and outside school".
We are incredibly proud of our first cohort of Free & Equal Ambassadors and look forward to seeing the impact they will make at Charters School. Change starts with conversation, and we are confident that our Ambassadors will spark meaningful discussions that lead to lasting progress.
Stay tuned for updates on the fantastic work they will be doing throughout the year!
