Festive Message From Kenya

11th Dec 2024

Students in our Sixth Form were overjoyed this week to receive a festive greeting from the Children's Garden Home in Kenya. The orphanage, which helps abandoned street children in Nairobi, has a strong link with Charters as our Year 12 and 13 students have been helping to mentor some of the older children during weekly online Chat Club sessions.

The message was forwarded to Charters by the founder of Chat Club, Natalie Hernanadez who said, "The English is not perfect but I'm sure you and your students will be able to pick up the sentiment they are trying to share". We can indeed, and students from our Sixth Form will be writing a festive message of their own to share with their Kenyan friends.

During this week's Chat Club our students will be explaining about English festive traditions, but will be mindful not to 'over share' on the abundance of food and gifts they receive at Christmas as those living in the Children's Garden House get very little.

Last year the Sixth Form raised over £1000 to support projects in the school which helped to refurbish the toilets and modernise their Science Lab. Chat Club is this year's House Charity for Bulldogs, and we look forward to raising more funds this year.
