An Inspector Calls Trip
This week, English students in Year 10 watched JB Priestley's play, An Inspector Calls. Part of the GCSE syllabus, watching the play is a wonderful experience for those studying the text.
Maria, Jasleen and April's report:
"We believe the experience was beneficial and provided support to our learning. Seeing the play acted out further expanded our understanding of the play as a whole. Additionally, this unique interpretation provided an interesting insight into the symbolism and extended our views and opinions of the characters and how their characterisations differed from the original script. It was extremely engaging as we have explored the book in detail in class. Studying the text in class can be difficult, but being given the opportunity to see the play on stage allows you to feel part of the story and brings the text alive .An example of this would be when the main characters’ house flashed brightly and collapsed on the stage, provoking a reaction from everyone! The teachers ensured the whole experience was brilliantly organised and ran like clockwork. Watching the play has enhanced our grasp on of the content of the text and will provide additional knowledge to help our GCSE studies."
Our thanks to the English department for planning and organising such a fantastic which will certainly give the students a more nuanced insight into the text.
