Mock Cop 29
COP 29 was hosted this year in Azerbaijan, when 65,000 delegates from countries across the globe came together to discuss how to effectively tackle the challenge of climate change.
Closer to home, students from Charters School were able to take part in the Mock COP 29 conference which was hosted at Holme Grange School in Wokingham.
Mirroring the format which took pace in Baku, our students took on the roles of global leaders, policymakers, and environmental advocates to simulate the real-world discussions and negotiations at the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP).
Isaac in Year 8 said, "This year the Eco Society was fortunate to be invited to a Mock COP 29 event . Schools from around Berkshire met and took on the roles of various countries in the world.
We negotiated and discussed ways of getting to net zero as soon as possible. It felt so important as we are the people who will have to save our planet in the future. It was also very reassuring to know that everyone took this mock event very seriously. Our team of nine students were split into two groups representing the delegations from Australia and Uganda. To prepare for this was so informative as we had to learn so much about our countries, essentially putting ourselves into their shoes."
We are extremely proud of the students who took part in this event. Thinking about ways to tackle climate change is everyone's responsibility, and with students who use their voice for positive change we can all look forward to a brighter future.
