Over £1000 Raised for Bulldogs House Charity
We are delighted that this year’s Bulldogs House Charity is ChatClub an innovative programme which involves young people in Britain chatting with their peers in Kenya. The Charity helps support children at the Children’s Garden Home School for Orphans.
We reported on this new initiative last term, which you can catch up on here. Our students chat and listen to students in Kenya, finding out about their lives and experiences and also fundraise to improve the conditions and facilities in their school and home!
Last year the Sixth Form raised over £1000 to support projects in the school including refurbishment of their toilets and work to modernise their Science Lab.
Here are the thoughts of some of our student ChatClubbers…..
For me ChatClub has been a nice opportunity to learn more about other people and for me to build up my communication skills. I have enjoyed working with the other people in our group and have loved making a nice connection with those in Kenya. I think the initiative of the project is something that is really impactful and knowing that we are able to bring joy to others simply by talking to them and also hearing their English improve has also been really special. Heidi
ChatClub gave me an opportunity to connect with people who are the same age and live lives that are the same as our but different. They do exams when we do exams. They play after school like we do. But they also have faced challenges we couldn’t imagine. A reminder to be humble and grateful for everything we have. Jonathan
I think we are extremely lucky to have many of our facilities here at Charters. I believe we all take certain amenities for granted, be it our common room or our leisure centre. Although the students we have befriended at Chatclub are much less fortunate than us, this only drives them to take further interest in their education and aim for highly respected careers. I love hearing about how much they enjoy their studies and I am immensely proud of their English ability.
Raising this amount of money in just one hour in Sixth Form was incredible, and it felt even better to know it was going towards a group of students who deserve it so much. I look forward to seeing how the funds we have raised will contribute to their new science labs. Sam
