We were lucky to have alumna, and Olympic rowing bronze medallist, Hattie Taylor as guest speaker at our Celebration of Achievement earlier this term.  So we are delighted to report on another es-student who may be following in her footsteps - U19 World Champion Rowing Silver medallist Abi Smith.

Abi loved her time at Charters and was at the school from Year 7 through to Year 11. She was a sporty student who you may have seen featured in some of our promotional photos a few years ago.  She found a love of rowing and never looked back.

Abi left in the summer of 2022 to take her A Levels at The Henley College which enabled her to row for Henley Rowing Club alongside her studies.   She was selected in the summer of 2023 and 2024 for international representation with Great Britain and went to the U19 World Championships in Canada this August as part of the Women’s 8. There the team won Silver.

Abi has now moved to Texas to continue her academic and rowing career on a Scholarship with SMU university in Dallas.  She continues to train six days a week as well as study, eat and sleep!

In terms of the future, Abi is committed to growing as a rower whilst gaining her degree in the US alongside working with GB rowing through the summer months.  Her focus is to continue her international representation with her sights set on the GB Under 23 squad.

We wish Abi all the best, and look forward to following her rowing career.
