Year 10s Relish Salamanca Experience
A group of Year 10 MFL students experienced life in Spain on the week-long annual homestay visit to Salamanca last week.
They were immersed in the Spanish language through intensive language lessons and by staying with host families in the city.
The students also enjoyed a programme of activities that included salsa dancing, Mediterranean cooking and a challenge that involved asking for information from local people.
The visit coincided with a local festival, with processions and bands playing in the street.
Other activities included tours of Salamanca’s historic old town, with its two cathedrals and two universities. The original university dates back to the 1200s, while the students’ lessons took place at the more modern Universidad Pontificia, through Mester Spanish Courses.
Mr Wightman said: “It was fantastic to see the way the students enjoyed the many different aspects of the Salamanca visit. They threw themselves into all the activities and enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere of the local fiesta which all made for a very successful trip.”
Our thanks to Miss Fernández and trip leader Mr Wightman for accompanying the students on this trip. A 'home stay' can provide young people with unique insights into the way of life in another country and well as a offer first-hand opportunities to use language skills in a ‘real’ context.
