Year 10 Geography students, along with our school mascot Waddleton, recently travelled to Dorset to immerse themselves in physical geography fieldwork. The students investigated the impact of coastal management on costal processes and communities in Hengistbury Head and Naish Beach, and undertook a wide range of primary data collection, from beach profiles to environmental impact assessments. The GCSE students will be examined on this for their Geography Paper 2 examination next summer.

Imogen wrote the following about her experience, "At the coast we mapped our beach profiles, carried out environmental impact assessments of coastal management, identified different sediments and completed field sketches of the two beaches. We focused on coastal management and how Hengistbury Head was more protected with rock groynes and gabions. However, this was different to Naish Beach which had no active intervention management plan which didn’t protect it from the forces of erosion. In the beautiful weather we found a prehistoric tooth which had been around for 50 million years, which excited Mr Devine!"

It sounds like the students benefited enormously from the fieldwork and we would like to thank Miss Barrett for planning and leading the trips.

Well done to all the students for representing the school so well.
