Coasteering in Dorset
Over the past two weeks students in Year 7 have been taking part in a week of adventure on the Jurassic Coast, and one of the activities on offer was coasteering. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the activity, it entails scrambling over rocks, exploring sea caves, sea swimming and jumping from cliffs into the water below!
Unsurprisingly this activity was a firm favourite with our students, and Elma in 7I has written a lovely report about her experience:
My highlight of the residential was coasteering. When someone mentioned coasteering I didn’t know what it was and I was confused, but when I heard what it was the first thing that came to my mind was “I’m going to break my neck, I’m not doing that”.
So when we got there they gave us a full black wet suit and they were so tight I took 15 mins to put it on and I looked so weird wigging like a worm whilst trying to get it on. After that we had to walk down a steep hill to the smooth sea. It was about a 5 minute walk and when were half way through it got colder and colder and the sun went behind the clouds and I kept on falling down the hill because my shoes didn’t have enough grip. Soon we got there we had to climb on some big, rough and bumpy rocks. There was a pool with clear sea water in and we had to jump in stomach first and when I jumped in I couldn’t breath or talk because it was so cold and the water tasted so salty and disgusting. After we all jumped in the pool we had to jump on different levels of rocks and it went from small to medium then big. I felt really confident and exited but it was very loud since everyone was screaming when they jumped off. After the rest were done we had to do “the big one” and when I jumped it was still very cold but it was so much fun because we went through the Mermaids Cave. It was kind of dark but the light from outside peeked through the big pink rocks.
I felt really proud of myself because I had a go at it and loved it.
