Royal Air Force Band Visit for Music Leaders
We were delighted to welcome into school the Royal Air Force Brass Quintet from RAF Northolt to perform to some of our Music Leaders during their Personal Development lesson.
The extremely talented musicians treated students from both GCSE and A-Level classes plus the Senior and Junior Orchestras, to a wide variety of repertoire which included a Disney Medley, some New Orleans Jazz, music from Carmen and much more.
The performers were world class, having previously played at events such as the King's Coronation, VJ Day Celebrations and the Platinum Jubilee to name but a few, and this was evident in their impressive skills.
The Brass Quintet comprised of two trumpets, a trombone, a French horn and a tuba. It was demonstrated how sound is made not by simply blowing into the instruments but by 'buzzing' your lips to cause vibration.
At the end of the session, students were able to ask questions and they were especially interested in many of the different instruments that were on show.
We sincerely thank the group for their time, and for performing for us.
The Music Department are hoping to work with RAF Northolt to have more concerts in future.
